Chapter 8

Surrounding the area of the bottom of the mountain, there lies a cave, guarded by multiple rogue soldiers, armed and dangerous. Hundreds of miners were working inside the cavern carrying the solid Polonium to the crates and containers, before the others loaded them on the trucks. Just as they were loading, an explosion occurred from outside the cave, gathering the attention of the miners and the soldiers. The leader of the rebel group turned to his men, before ordering them to check out the incident.

Outside the cave, multiple trucks and their vehicles exploded, causing some of the soldiers to take cover from the blasts. David and Michael snuck inside the cave, from the nearest entrance, before hiding behind the boulders. They saw the miners, before counting the armed guards. David looked up and saw a possible hide. He turned to Michael, handing his sniper rifle, before pointing at the hide. Michael gave a nod, before he ran to the wall. David signaled him to stop for a moment, before he ran around the area. He went to the other side, before hiding behind a truck. He then started aiming at the foundations, close to the guard, where a pulley stood. David waited until one of the laborers were out of range, before shooting the structure, causing it to fall on the guard.

When the commotion started, David nodded at Michael, before he started scaling the wall. David watched as Michael got inside the hide, before the man started shooting at the guards, grabbing their attention. Michael used the opening to target the guards from behind, as they were all aiming at David. As their numbers lessened to David could count from his fingers, he went out of the hiding spot, before battling the guards in hand-to-hand combat. Michael continued to fire at the guards, before watching David take out the last one, as he snapped the guard’s neck.

Michael went down from his hide, before joining David on the grounds, where they saw the frightened laborers, some holding onto their sons, while the others, held onto their elderly fathers. Michael pressed his comm. “Kyle, we’re clear.

“Roger that. We have a situation here.” Kyle reported. “Two of the trucks with the rest of the Polonium managed to slip through along with the rest of the guards.

“Where are they headed?” Michael asked, as he turned to David.

“The only possible point is the pier. They’re probably going to load them all on the ship.” They heard Rebecca report to them.

“Secure the hostages.” David spoke up to his mic. “Michael and I can rendezvous with Rebecca and cut them off at the docks with the chopper.” Michael grew surprised, as it was the first time he heard David say his name.

“Copy that.” Before Michael could react, he and David nodded at each other, as they ran out of the cave.

Rebecca flew the chopper over to the field near the cave, picking the two men up, before they chased after the trucks on the road. Knowing that they could not fire at the truck, because of the combustible material on board, they remained undetected from the skies. Rebecca glanced at David and Michael. “Guys, what’s the plan?” she asked.

Michael turned to David, who was hanging by the door, watching the trucks on the road. “If there are other men guarding the docks, you and Michael have to secure the ship.” David told them. “I can take out the trucks, without setting the hazardous materials off.

“You can’t do that all by yourself!” Michael told him, voice raised, from the helicopter’s engines.

“I’ve got nothing better to do anyways!” David taunted, before he turned back to the trucks that they passed, before heading straight to the docks.

Upon seeing a dozen guards waiting by the pier, David nodded at Rebecca, before she turned the chopper around and back to the trucks. David secured his rope to rappel down, before Michael went over to him. “David!” he called the man. “This isn’t what I meant!

“The mission is to secure the hostages and the Polonium.” David pointed out, as he strapped his rifle on his chest, before securing his guns. “I’m actually good at following orders, even though I’m not getting paid as much as before!” Michael stared at the man, before David lets himself fall from the edge of the chopper.

As David landed on top of the last truck, the helicopter flew away. David held onto the straps of the truck, before seeing three men coming up to the roof. David took a deep breath, before running over to the nearest opponent, and kicking him off the truck. He then slid down, avoiding the bullets from the others, before he flipped the guard down, tossing him over to the other, as they both flew off the truck. David went to the end of the roof, before hanging on the side. He opened the driver’s door, before pulling the driver out from the truck. He shot the passenger, as he sat down inside.

David punched the gas, as he drove passed the other truck. He swerves and cuts off the truck, causing the driver of the other vehicle to stop in the middle of the road. David jumped out of the vehicle, before climbing on top. He shot the driver and the two passengers of the truck, before seeing four more guards, appearing from the sides of the vehicle. David took cover, as the guards started shooting at him.

“David, report!” the man heard Michael’s voice. “We secured the docks.” He reported.

“We secured the hostages.” Kyle told them. “What happened to the rest of the Polonium?

David sighed, feeling annoyed at the multiple voices, before he removed his earpiece. He felt the bullets raining closer over to him, before he glanced at the side mirror of the truck. He saw two guards closing in, before he ducked down, and shot at the legs of the guards from below. He then shot them on the head, before searching for the last two guards. One guard appeared from beside him, but he dodged the bullet, before shooting his opponent straight to the head.

David went down on the ground, searching for the last guard, before noticing that even the legs of the man were gone. He straightened up, before hearing faint footsteps from above the truck. Before the guard could land a bullet through him, David swiftly disappeared from the guard’s sight, causing him to feel shocked at the movement, before the man appeared behind him, shooting him at the back of his head. David heard a car pull over next to the truck, as he saw Denise behind the wheel. The woman looked shocked, as he jumped from the roof of the truck, before landing smoothly on the ground.

On her way to the site, Denise saw multiple bodies on the road, before seeing the rest of the bodies around the area of the truck. She turned to David, who placed his gun in his holster, before glancing at her. “Because killing people is what I do best.” He said, indicating that it was the answer to her question from before, as he walked, passed her.

Denise watched as David hoped inside the back of the truck, resting, before she turned to her comm. “The trucks are secured.” She reported.

“Good.” Kyle chuckled, along with Sarah in the background.

“How about David?” Michael asked. “How is he?

Denise stared at the man, feeling a mix of amazement and fear. “He’s…” she sighed. “He’s inhuman.
