Chapter 2

Ever since I got home from the University, the words Yohan have told me hasn't left my mind since then.

What does he meant by that?

"Hey, Mitsu-kun." I called Mitsume— she and I were both exchange students as we go on the same school in Yokohama. We were from a different section but we have been together since we were kids. You can say that we are childhood friends.

"Yes? Did something happened to you?" she asked, quickly glancing at me before looking back to the curry she's cooking.

"Hm, not really." I said, slightly shaking my head as I watch her back. Leaning my head on the Chabudai table— a short-legged table used in traditional Japanese homes that our parents sent all the way from Yokohama to here in California. For the reason that they want us to feel at home even if we're on a different country.

"So what exactly happened?" she asked, turning off the stove before placing down the pot on the center. "It's very unlikely you to be bothered on something unimportant," Mitsume added as she handed me a bowl of Takikomi Gohan, a Japanese mixed rice, before sitting in front of me.

The two of us joined our hands together in front of our chests then say, "Itadakimasu!" we both said in unison, a term we, Japanese people, use for "let's eat" or "I humbly received the meal," showing gratitude for the food before we dig in.

"So who's the guy?"

"Just a classmate," I answered her question before taking my third bite. "I will never get tired of your curry." I said, lowkey phrasing her for her cooking skills— was it even a compliment?

"Well, what do you expect from me? I'm a Miyazawa after all," she bluntly said, flipping her hair then we both laughed afterwards.

"What's with this classmate of yours?" she asked, emphasizing the word classmate upon composing herself.

"Well..." I placed down my chopsticks on the table, clasping my hands afterwards. "He noticed that I lack of sleep."

Mitsume raised a brow at me, "So? What's wrong? What has been bugging you the entire time?"

"He said something while we're about to part ways," I sighed. "Don't mind it, it's no big deal." I just said before continuing my meal, shrugging it off.

"Gochisosama deshita!" we said practicing the same gesture we did before we started eating. Then I started cleaning up the things we used for eating. We had an agreement that we should do the cooking and the chores alternately and today is Mitsume's schedule.

"Are you heading out?" Mitsume asked when she saw me taking the jacket hanged on the clothing rack.

I nodded at her while wearing my shoes, "I'll just get some fresh air, it might help me fall asleep." I said, checking the time on my cellular phone.

7:30 PM in the evening. "I'll be back in an hour."

The cold breeze of the air welcomed me upon exiting the dormitory we're staying in that is provided by the school. There's not much students outside at this hour since it's only an hour and a half before the curfew strikes in.

I jogged to the nearest convenience store I know to buy a drink before heading to the playground a few walks away from it.

While scanning the fridge for the strawberry milk that I have been buying ever since I got in here, I suddenly saw someone through the reflection the moment I closed the door which startled me.

"Oh, sorry— it's not my intention to startle you..." I heard him say with his familiar deep voice.

I turned around to see who it was, or more like to confirm if it is really him— Yohan.

"No, it's fine!" I said then I noticed that he was wearing a glasses which made him look more decent. And I noticed that he was holding a bunch of coffee on his basket along with some chips. "Are you still planning to sleep?"

He looked down on his basket before looking back at me, his eyes are no longer piercing than before. Was it because of the glasses he's wearing?

"I'm planning to finish Crime and Punishment tonight," he said before walking towards the counter. I followed him. "What about you? Why are you still out at this hour?"

"I need air," I just said before handing the cashier the carton of strawberry milk I'm buying.

He was just watching me pay for my milk, waiting for me. Then he opened the door for me afterwards, "Thanks." I softly said upon exiting the store.

"Where are you going next? Back home?" he asked as he walks beside me, facing front.

"Hm," I slightly shake my head before pointing the playground from here. "I'm heading to the playground. What about you?" I asked as I looked up to him. I just realized that he's way taller than me. He has a pointed nose which made his side profile look even more handsome.

I looked away when I he looked back at me.

"I'll go with you." he softly said.

There was a long silence around us as we walked our way to the playground. The streets were dark but all thanks to the moon for being our source of light. I unconsciously looked up, only to see the clear sky full of stars and the bright moon on the side. I stopped walking to admire the night sky.

I felt Yohan pull me when I stopped from my tracks. He likes holding my wrist huh?

"Do you like the moon?" he asked out of the blue while we were sitting on the swing. I punched the hole of my strawberry milk with the folding straw before taking a sip from it.

"Yeah..." I said softly as I slightly push my feet on the grounds, moving the swing. "I was supposed to be named after it after all,"

He hummed, anticipating me to continue talking.

I chuckled then we stayed silent for a minute. Feeling the breeze of air brushing through our skin while enjoying the night sky.

Slowly, my eyes started to feel heavy.
