"Devin you're so dumb!" Ellie said, pushing him after he spilt icecream on her.

"What?" Devin laughed. He looked at her shirt.

"Oh shit." He looked down at his own clothes. Ellie glared at him.

"Um.. well you know it'll wear off. here," he rubbed the napkins they got onto her shirt.

"Devin that's just gonna make it worse!" she yelled.

"Okay well, what do you want me to do?"

She shook her head.

"Wash it when you get home. I don't know why you're so pressed. We were having fun. And it's not even a nice shirt. You have better ones." He said these things to make her feel better. It didn't work.

The next day at school, Ellie ignored Devin. She walked into her English class.

"Hey." Kai said.

"Hey."

"You look mad."

"I am." She opened the book they were presenting.

"..So you summarize the first three chapters, and then I summarize chapter four and five, and Amy will summarize chapter six and answer the discussion questions. Right Amy?"

Amy sat down. "Huh?" She just entered the classroom.

"Yeah." Ellie nodded.

"Ellie!" Amy said. "I.. I like your hair. It's nice when it's tied up."

Amy mentally cursed at herself. Why did I say that? I like her hair down more. I'm just desperate to be her friend at this point.

Ellie smiled. "Thanks." It made her feel better.

"So what happened?" Kai asked.

"Nothing new. Devin is stupid."

Amy frowned. Devin was Amy's crush in freshman year. He never paid attention to her because he thought she was a nerd.

"We knew that already. Anyways, are you guys rea-"

"Good morning class! I'm going to take attendance now, then we'll get on to the presentations. I'm excited to hear about your stories."

Ellie, Kai and Amy turned to look at eachother.

"Let's start with Ethan's group."

Amy watched them get up. Some students looked at eachother and laughed.

"So for our book Six Figures-"

"sO fOr OuR bOok SiX fIgUrEs" one boy mocked Ethan.

"Justin. Behave. Go on Ethan."

Ellie rolled her eyes. It irritated her more that Devin was friends with guys like him.

"Hey Amy, are you doing anything at lunch?" Kai asked her.

"Um.." Amy put her book in her backpack.

"-The university fair is going on today in the cafeteria, I was wondering if you wanted to check it out together?"

"Oh yeah. That's what I was going to do."

"So?"

"..Yeah we can go together."

Ellie overheard them talking. She texted Devin back to cancel on their plans.

Ellie- 11:01 am

"I have an essay to work on tonite"

"And I'm not doing well in the class so I want to work on it the next few days"

She sighed. Looking at the way Kai treated Amy, she thought that Devin could treat her better. Way better.

And Kai wasn't even Amy's boyfriend.

Devin- 11:03 am

"What class"

read at 11:04 am.

"Hey um, do you guys mind if I come with you?" Ellie got up before Amy and Kai left.

They turned around. Amy's eyes widened.

It was happening... they were going to be together. As three. As a group.

Kai looked at Amy.

"Yeah, of course."

"I just really don't want to see a certain someone at lunch today. Sorry."

Amy was very surprised to believe her. "You don't have anyone els-"

"I like you guys I promise! If I wanted to hang out with other people, I wouldn't have asked!" She said as they left the class together.

Later that day, Amy came home and ate dinner.

"Hey mom," She said.

"Hi, how are you?"

"..I went to the university fair at lunch with some classmates," She tried not to smile, but it was exciting for her. She knew her mom would be happy to here about this.

"Oh?" Her mom raised her eyebrows. "Making new friends already?"

"No mom. It's not that easy." She said.

"Did you think about what I told you last night?"

"Yeah. "

Ever since what happened with her ex best friend, Amy lost her trust in everybody she knew. So she couldn't make friends, and she didn't put effort into talking to her classmates. Unless she was talking to Ellie and Kai.

"Anyways," her mom sighed, "Amelia is visiting this weekend, so, put something nice on. You can't dress like that when we have company over."

"Amelia doesn't even remember me."

"That's not true. Your cousin has a great memory and she'll be asking you lots of questions about school. So you might as well make new friends if you don't want her to know about Kate."

"Ok fine. Making friends doesn't happen overnight."

Meanwhile, Kai was playing video games in his room.

"Hi Kai,"

"What is it?" He asked his little brother.

"I'm bored."

"What? Go do your homework!"

"I don't have any," he whined.

Kai sighed. "What do you want?"

"Can I play with you?" His brother asked.

"Okay..." He took his headset off.

"We can play one game. Which one do you want to play?"

"Hmmm," His brother looked at the tv screen. "Lego Ninjago."

Kai regretted asking. "I... fine."

"Oh anyways, Guess who I was with today."

"Who?"

"Ellie Marin. Do you remember her? she talked to you during our graduation."

"Oh that girl! Yeah I do! Are you guys friends now?"

"I mean I don't know, we always talked. I haven't hung out with her since ninth grade."

"She was nice. I miss her."

"I'll tell her you said hi if you want," he smiled.

"Okay."

Amy knew that Kai and Ellie went to the same middle school because most of the students at Tierwood high went there. What she didn't know was that they were friends back then and Ellie has met Kai's brother.
