Kai entered the school with his eyes barely opened. He stayed up last night doing his homework because he procrastinated in the afternoon. He was too sleepy to notice the weird matching outfits that Ethan and his other friends were wearing.

Ellie and Nicole stood by their homeroom class.

"Thank god it's Friday."

"I know right? This week felt so.. long. Math class is so annoying."

"I'm going to try and finish my essay today so I can relax a bit tomorrow. Mr. Refur is a pain."

"Didn't you say you like that class though?"

"I mean I like talking to Ian and Kai and Amy's nice too but I hate writing so.."

"I don't know any of those people but okay." Nicole laughed.

Kai went up to Amy when their english class lined up in front of the room.

"Hey Amy,"

"Hi"

"Did you start the english essay?"

"No," she laughed.

"Hey guys," Ellie came up behind them.

Amy felt her heartbeat. She was talking to them both by chance and she felt like she was already their friend. It didn't make sense to her that A popular girl like Ellie would willingly start a conversation with her. It was dumb to label classmates as popular and whatnot but, Amy had low self confidence and she didn't think she could be friends with the people she liked. She was really shy.

"How are things with Devin? I didn't see you with him yesterday." Kai asked Ellie.

"Ugh don't bring him up right now. I'm still avoiding him."

Amy wanted to ask her about him but she didn't say anything.

The supply teacher came and opened the classroom door. When he took attendance, Amy noticed that Ethan was away.

"What a surprise that the nerd didn't show up," Ian said, and some of the other kids laughed.

Meanwhile, Amy was thinking of how to appeal to Ellie as a friend.

And how to be cooler.

The silence of the work period only lasted 10 minutes, because after that, the students heard noises outside and the school was on a lockdown.

Ethan and his senior friends were in the school with guns.

Everybody reached for the exists of the school.

Everything was a blur that day in school.

Amy felt trapped and she didn't know if she was supposed to leave the school or be in class. Tierwood High has never experienced a school shooting.

She roamed around the halls, dizzy. Then she froze when she heard Ethan's voice.

She stood behind a wall and watched Ethan approach Ellie and Kai

How did they end up together, in this situation?

"Oh look who it is... Kai Halls and Ellie Marin. You know how much your friends have picked on me?"

They stood by eachother and sowly dropped to the floor, against the lockers.

Amy saw Ethan get closer from behind with his gun.

She decided that she had enough. The best thing to do was to leave the scene for her own safety, but she wasn't going to led a nerd ruin her chances of having a new friend group. She didn't want to see Ellie or Kai in danger.

Amy walked up towards them and she elbowed Ethan from behind.

It was as if something went inside of her and took over her body. She couldn't believe what she was doing, but it felt right to her.

Ethan fell on the floor and Kai and Ellie were stunned. Amy quickly grabbed the gun.

"You leave them the fuck alone," she said, "Or I'll shoot. I swear I'll shoot."

Ethan put his hands up.

"You don't want to do that, you don't even how to use it."

"Doesn't matter. I'm not scared of you."

Ellie suddenly got up and ran away.

Ethan was about to charge himself at Amy, but Kai stood up and pushed him back before he could touch Amy.

He tried to take the gun from Amy, but it was too late. She shot Ethan in the chest.

Amy's eyes widened, and they both looked down at Ethan. He was on the floor, groaning.

Right then, the police came and saw what had happened.

"My life is over. I shot a kid with a gun. There's no way they're not going to suspend me," Amy cried as the police left and took Ethan away. Kai and Amy walked outside.

"No it's not. Technically they don't know you shot him."

"Are you joking? they can always check the school cameras. Just because they didn't ask us then dopesn't mean they won't find out later. We're going to be questioned.

"No I mean.." Kai stuttered.

"..I'll tell them I did it. The cameras won't show it properly because I was close to you and I pushed him. They won't doubt me if I turn myself in."

They stopped walking.

"You would do that for me?"

"I know how much scholarships and university means to you. Look, my parents can pay the school and I won't care if I'm suspended. It's actually a surprise that I've never been suspended. This will hurt your reputation but it won't hurt mine. Also.. you did risk your life to save Ellie and I."

"-Ellie! Oh my god, what if she tells them that I-"

"She left before the gun was fired. She doesn't know."

"Kai-"

"It's okay. Now go home. School's over now."

She stared at him, then she nodded.

Amy wondered what was going to happen now.

Tierwood has never faced any kind of event that would traumatize students and teachers. The school would be closed for a week and Kai, Ellie, and Amy woud be tested for a hearing sometime next week. Even though school shootings happened often in America, Tierwood has never experienced one until now.
