When Amy entered her English class, she sighed. Since the literature group discussions would finish this week, she wouldn't have an excuse to talk to Ellie and Kai anymore. Well, if Kai really wanted to be friends with her he'd keep talking to her. But she wanted Kai and Ellie to be her two best friends.

She thought about how she felt yesterday when she went to the university fair with them.

"Do you guys know what colleges you're going to?"

"We have a whole year to figure it out. We're only juniors."

"Yeah but like... well you don't have any in mind?"

"Kai you're stressing us out!"

"Sorry! I don't mean to.. I'm just.. okay I'm kind of stressed."

"Don't be." Amy said. "Just do well this year and next year, and any college will accept you.

"You make it sound easy," Ellie laughed.

"I mean like, unless you're applying to a program that has other requirements, you're fine. Just spend that extra 10 minutes studying."

"What are you applying for?" She asked her.

"Uh.. I'm thinking well.. I want to go into film." Amy said shyly.

"Oh that's so cool Amy." Kai smiled.

"Wha- what about you guys?"

Amy stopped smiling. She watched Kai and Ellie enter the classroom.

"Literature buddies!" She called out sarcastically.

"Ew," Ellie laughed.

"Hi Amy. You seem happy."

"What?"

Ellie watched Kai and Amy.

It's funny that a non official couple seemed more fun and affectionate than her and Devin. She shook her head.

I'm overreacting again. My friends say I'm lucky to date Devin. That he's one of the cutest boys here.

The class started and Amy zoned out while the teacher spoke.

If Kate didn't stop being my friend last year, I wouldn't have to worry so much about being in a friend group with Kai and Ellie.

But when I saw Ellie for the first time in art class, something hit.

And Kai is the first and only guy that has ever paid attention to me. He makes me feel like a human being. It's hard to feel like that when you had a toxic best friend. In a way, they're my only hope.

And it makes sense for them to be a couple. Devin's a dick, and, well, there was that one conversation I overheard where Kai called Ellie cute.. it could work. I could make it work. If I keep talking to them both.

Jesus I'm weird.

She snapped out of it and focused on English class.

Kai turned away before Amy could catch him looking.

"Anyways. Make sure you finish the essay over the weekend. I won't be here tomorrow so you'll just have a work period."

The bell rang.

Ellie went to her locker to meet up with her friend Nicole.

"And we- Hey Ellie."

"Hey Ellie," Devin was standing next to her.

Ugh.

"What are you guys doing?"

"Talking about our math quiz. Neither of us studied." Nicole said.

"Ellie uh, do you want to come overe tomorrow after school? It's Friday."

"I already told you I'm busy. I'm working on my English essay."

"On a Friday? I know you're still mad about your shirt but, I can make it up to you. Please?"

"I said I'm busy." Ellie took her jacket from her locker.

"Come on Nicole, let's get lunch."

Nicole laughed at Devin and followed her.

When school ended, Amy went to the library for volunteer work. She passed by Nicole and Ellie and noticed that Devin wasn't with him.

Since Ellie hasn't been with Devin the past two days, she thought they were aruging or even better, that they broke up.

"It's not because I'm jealous... I stopped crushing on Devin two years ago. It's just that Ellie deserves a better guy.. like Kai..." She thought.

While waiting for students to leave the library, she overheard Ethan's conversation with his friends.

"I swear. These dudes have always bullied me. The past three years, and I'm sick of it. I'm finally going to do it tomorrow. You guys better text me tonight."

"We will. You know we'll be ready."

"Thanks buddy."

They're probably talking about drugs.

At this point, Amy would be surprised if she found a classmate that didn't do drugs or drink alcohol. She felt like the only one. Even Kate left her to be like the other cool kids.
