Chapter 6

The hospital was the last place that I'd ever visit yet, I'm here. My stomach seemed to turn upside down to the smell of medicine that I had to cover my nose and mouth to stop myself from throwing up. I don't know what happened but, I'm kinda nervous.

Lexin's eyes were puffy as she stared at her daughter. She was holding her hand tightly, the other one was caressing Alex's hair while she was sleeping peacefully in the hospital bed, an IV was attached to her.

While we were standing across Alex's bed.

"Girl, we should go home," Sid whispered beside me.

He followed me instead of going to the party which I appreciated. If ever, I would have gone crazy handling this alone. I mean, Lexin didn't ask for help but, as her neighbor, I should be there with her, right? Especially at times like this. Also, I wouldn't lose anything if I lend my hands for help.

"It's already one in the morning. Your eyes are about to give up, too," he noticed.

I blinked numerous times. I have never realized how tired I am today until I saw the time. I felt like my eyes would give up on me soon.

"You go first," I said softly. "You still have a flight to catch tomorrow, Sid. I can manage myself."

The curtain behind us moved a little. It must be the patient confined in the other bed. We step forward a bit.

"I can't leave you here," he insisted.

Shaking my head, I looked at Lexin's back. She never talked since we arrived in the hospital which I understand. Good thing she stopped crying. I had to drive her car because her hands were shaking badly! She must have been scared of what happened to her daughter.

We were just watching a movie earlier and this happened... Life is full of surprises indeed.

"Did you inform them what happened?" I asked, referring to our friends. I don't want them to think that we ditched them.

"I didn't tell them the reason. But are you sure you can manage? You hate hospitals, Aya."

"I can and I will, Sid," I assured him again. "You can go now...

We were whispering at each other to keep our voices low. We could talk outside but I can't leave her alone.

He sighed in defeat. "Okay, take care of yourself, then."

"You, too...

He left without prolonging our conversation. I breathed heavily. I could see the smoke coming out of my mouth due to the coldness of my surroundings.

I honestly wanted to go home, too. I had a long day and the weather's not really helping. But my conscience is not letting me go, it says I should stay with her until Alex gets better. I walked near the bed and sat at the end of the bed.

I rubbed my palms together. "Are you okay? You need something or what? How about coffee?

She glanced at me. "I'm fine, Aya..." she smiled a bit. "Thank you. You don't need to stay with us, though. You should have gone home with your friend."

"What did the doctor say?" I asked instead.

"She's fine. She will be discharged first thing in the morning so, don't worry too much about her. My daughter will be fine."

"Of course, she will get better.

"I'm sorry though," she uttered. "About earlier, I never meant to harass you or something. But it was true that I wanna kiss you.

I pursed my lips tightly. "You are so honest, Lexin."

"I was told to express myself," she shrugged. "You should go home, Aya. It's late...

"You will be okay here?"

"Hmm... Just like you, I can manage myself." She reached for her bag and took something out before throwing it in my direction. It's her keys. "It's dangerous to ride a cab at this hour, just take my car with you.

"What about you?

"Pick us up," she smirked. "Wake up early and prepare some breakfast for Alex, is that okay?

I don't know if she's bossing me around or asking for a favor but either way, I nodded.

"Okay, a breakfast for Alex.

"I will have mine now." She stood up.

"Huh?" I frowned in confusion.

Lexin stopped across me. The bed was the only thing that hindered us from being close and I was really thankful for that! But not when she sat on the bed, too and I was too mesmerized by her beauty to even move and look away! My eyes just kept on following her.

Even though her eyes were puffy red from crying, she still looks adorable to me. Her hair was tied in a half-up and a bit messy. Barefaced yet still looking beautiful.

"Were you supposed to go to a party?" she asked curiously while roaming her eyes, examining my clothes.

Nodding my head, I looked at her forehead. She had a pimple at the center, it wasn't there earlier in the morning.

Her brows shot up. "Together with your friend? What was his name again? Sid?

"Were you eavesdropping?

"It's not my fault. You two should have talked outside.

I rolled my eyes. "I will go now.

I was about to stand up when she quickly grabbed my neck, making me gasp in surprise. My eyes were wide open as I stared at her in shock. And again, my heart raced the moment her eyes met mine. Fuck!

"I told you I'll have my breakfast now."

My teeth clenched. "You were crying earlier and now you're being aggressive!" I whispered aloud.

"It doesn't change the fact that I wanna kiss you, Aya."

"You've gone crazy."

"Say the woman who lusts over me."

She leaned on towards me. Our lips were just inches away and with one wrong move, we'll end up eating each other.

"You're spitting nonsense." I gulped.

"Your eyes say it, love. The lust is evident in those beautiful chinky eyes of yours." She blew a deep breath which made me close my eyes.

Before I could even utter a word, I felt her licked the side of my lips. I grip on my coat tightly holding for my sanity. Her breath is so sweet that I wanted to just give in to her!

Having her close like this felt so good. It seems to me like I own her, that she belongs to me as well as me to her and it's kinda scary thinking about it! How could I think of that?!

"I badly wanna do it," she sighed. "But not here, in front of my daughter, and definitely not at this time.

I opened my eyes and saw her backing away. She smiled apologetically.

"You should go home, Aya. I will ring you tomorrow."

"You don't have my number."

"I have," she stood straight. "Now, go home and wait for me."

"You mean, wait for your call?" I didn't bother asking her how she got my number. Well, maybe next time.

She chuckled. "Yes, if that's how you see it."

I smiled a bit. If only I could stay, I would. But my body was not cooperating with me. As much as she needs to rest, I also need one. Besides, I still have something to do tomorrow which I should have done today. I will just wait for her call tomorrow.

In the midst of darkness, I left the hospital and went home. I tried to sleep but I just ended up staring blankly at the ceiling, wondering.

Maybe Sid was right, I should give myself a chance.

I knew this one wasn't real. Pure lust, like what Lexin said. She was right about me lusting over her. I just can't resist her charm. It was too powerful, the current was too strong. I know I will still get drowned by whatever I'd do to save myself from being swayed.

Maybe I should stop overthinking about it. If this is what it takes to keep me entertained, then I will stop and just give in, letting myself be happy for a while. Being with her would be a sin in the eyes of others but, my mind just said no, don't listen. Their opinion doesn't matter.

"But am I really willing to get drowned into the depths of her eyes?

A chance of not getting up scares the shit out of me. If that happens, I don't know what to do in case.

I squeeze my eyes shut. I have no clue how I slept that night but I just woke up by the sound of the doorbell, and also heard a banging on my door. I thought it would break anytime soon. I groaned as I laid on my bed, not really planning to get up.

Tilting my head, I peep at the clock on the bedside table and I think my heart just stopped beating when I saw the time. I immediately reached for my phone and saw a lot of missed calls from an unknown number.

Then, I remember Lexin...

"Fuck!" I cursed.

I quickly got up and ran towards my window, sliding the curtains aside, and looked down to see Lexin's house, not really minding the noise someone's causing behind my door downstairs. When I saw a red car parked right in front of her house, I sighed in relief.

It wasn't her car. Yet I'm glad because I sense that she's home but still, I felt bad.

I massaged my nape, my other hand holding the phone. She really bombed me with calls. Damn... Just calls and no texts. Not a single one.

How will I deal with her? How about Alex's breakfast? It's already ten in the morning and I'm sure she has eaten her breakfast but fuck it, Aya!

I felt so irresponsible!

Without looking myself at the mirror, I went downstairs to attend to whoever my guest is.

"Hey, stop banging my door! It would literally break soon!" I scowled then suddenly, it stopped.

I opened the door and my conscience promptly crawled directly to my heart when I saw who it was.

"Alex..."

"Good morning, our beautiful neighbor!" she greeted hyper li.

Her hands were behind her back, and as usual, she looked so shy and was swaying her hips again just like we first met.

I bent down to match her height. "How do you feel now?

"I feel better, pretty! Mom took care of me, that was why she looks scary now," she giggled. "She hasn't slept yet. Dark circles and bags under her eyes, she's looking like a panda now.

"Your mom still looks beautiful despite those.

"Yes, and!" I backed away slightly when she showed me her hands and handed me the small bag! "Mom made this exclusively for you, pretty! And she sent a message, too."

"What is it?" I took the square-shaped bag from her. I smell food.

"Her keys," Alex simply answered.

"Oh..." I nodded. "Would you like to go inside and stay for a bit? I will take you home after eating this food."

She looked up, thinking. I guess I waited for a minute or two before she gave me an answer.

"Mom doesn't want me to taste the food inside that bag. Would you mind if I take a bite? Just a very small bite, I promise! Cross my heart!

"How small?" I teased.

"Like this!" She showed me the small space between her thumb and forefinger which made me laugh.

She's too pure and innocent. An adorable baby just like her mother.

I mentally shook my head. I stood up and invited her in. I accompanied her to the kitchen and there, we ate while talking about her favorites. The food tasted heavenly. It was just a simple baked macaroni but I think starting today, it would be my favorite dessert.

"Just wait for me here, okay? I will just fix myself and we'll go home," I told her.

After eating and washing the used utensils, I brought her to my room and let her explore my things as I showered.

I need to see and talk to Lexin about what happened.
