CHAPTER 1

“You did not told me that you were going,” Marco said while preparing a coffee for us. We are currently inside his office. It’s looks huge— or was it just because he only has few things?

“Why would I?” he handed me my coffee, “Thanks.

He sat on the couch in front of me, “Because who knows if I have a fully packed schedule? You might just waste your time.

I was busy looking around his office like it was the only thing I could do. The color scheme of his office were only white, black and grey, it looks manly. He has shelve filled with books on the right side of the room while there’s a mini kitchen on the opposite side. My eyes then landed on the nameplate in his table.

Marco S. Javier

Director

Damn. He’s too young for his position.

“So.. are you done checking out my office?” I heard him chuckle silently.

I pointed his name plate, “Are you sure you are Marco Javier?” I raised a brow.

“Yes, why?” he clasped his hands, resting both of his elbow on his knees that made him lean. He seemed curious why on earth I am here.

I did not answered his question, but instead I fished my mini notebook and pen out of my bag together with the consent letter I made last night. It was not really necessary but I did not even contacted him about this. So in other words, I still don’t have his consent regarding the interview I am about to conduct.

He took the letter from my hands and started to read it. It was not that long but it took him a few minutes before placing the letter on the coffee table, he probably thought about it.. I guess.

“So you want to know everything about me?” he raised a brow and I just shrugged, “Let me think about it first.

He leaned back on the couch, he looked serious. Well I guess he really is. I waited for about five minutes before I decide if I should take my leave.

Before he could even react, I started putting my things back into my bag. After doing that, I looked at him.

“I’m going. You could just text or e-mail me your answer,” I gave him my calling card where my number and e-mail was written. Including the publishing company where I am working.

“You’re going?” he raised a brow. I nodded, confused. “I thought you are going to ask me stuffs.

“I won’t interview you if you haven’t gave me permission to do it,” I said before standing up, “Excuse me.

With that, I stormed out of his room without even waiting for his response. Well I can start my interview whenever I want. They did not gave me a deadline.

As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, my phone rang. I fished it out from my bag then answered it without looking at the caller.

“Good morning. Athena speaking, how may I help you?” those were the words I usually say when I answer calls.

“Oh.. Good morning, Miss Athena,” I could hear him chuckle from the other line. I think I’ve heard his voice somewhere.

“Hello, who’s this?

“Damn. How could you forget my voice when we just talked a few minutes ago,” what the hell? Is this Marco?

“I apologize for that, Mr. Javier,” I stopped on walking to be able to understand him more, “What do you need?

He chuckled, “The last time I checked, you were the one who needed something from me. Am I right?

Oh... right.

“Again, I apologize for that. So, why did you call?” I could feel him smirk from what I just said.

“Well, I don’t have much schedule for today. Maybe you could do your thing?” thing?

“What thing?” I hate this. I’m getting stupid each day.

“You journalist thing, interview, jot down notes?

“Right. Okay, I’ll be back in a few minutes,” I said before turning around. Good thing I was still near the building.

“Oh, no. You don’t have to. I bet you’re already outside,” is he psychic? Lol, no.

“Uh... Yes, I am.

“Do you see the coffee shop near the building?” I looked around then I saw it. It was on the other side of the road.

“Yes.

“Meet me there, you can already order for yourself. I’ll be there in a minute,” he hung up.

After putting my phone back on my bag, I waited for the traffic light to turn red so I could cross the road. There were only a few people inside the shop and most of them were employees on the company nearby.

I ordered a salted caramel praline macarons and an americano before taking the table on the isolated part of the shop. I texted Mr. Javier that I am already here. I prepared my notebook and pen.

“Hey.

I looked up to see Mr. Javier. He was no longer wearing his coat.

“Have you ordered?” I nodded on his question.

“Shall we start?” he nodded, “Let’s start with your basic information. When’s your birthday?

“July 4, 1995.

“Your name is Marco S. Javier, I saw it on your name plate. Your middle initial means what?

“Sy. My mom’s Chinese if you would ask that,” I nodded, well I was going to ask that too.

“If you were born on 1995, then you’re already 25 years old. You’re too young for your position.

“Well I had to replace my dad.

My mouth formed an ‘o’ after hearing that.

The interview went smoothly and we had to stop when our orders arrived. I had to jot down everything he says.

“Anyway,” I looked at him, waiting for him to continue, “I saw on your consent letter that you had to know my lifestyle for a month. Right?

I nodded, “Uh.. yes. That’s what my boss want. But you don’t have to approve it if you are not comfortable with it. I won’t force you.

“It’s fine with me,” he shrugged then he placed his elbow on the table and his chin on his palm. “Where will you go after this?

“I will go back to my office or I will just go home?” I shrugged, “I don’t know.

He licked his lower lip, “Do you want to be my secretary for a month?
