CHAPTER 4

I couldn't say no to Mady so here I am, sitting right in front of Marco beside Mady in a fancy restaurant. We were sitting in a table for four persons.

"Ugh! Why is Morris late?" Mady rolled her eyes.

"Who's Morris?" I asked the two but when Marco was about to speak, a tall familiar man arrived.

"The great Morris Javier has arrived!" he said.

"Why are you late?" Mady asked his brother. I think Morris is the eldest?

"I'm sorry, Mads. I had to do some errands before going here. You know, you have busy brother," he laughed before shifting his eyes on me. "Now, now, who is this beautiful lady?"

I almost roll my eyes when I heard him say that. I am pretty sure that he is a womanizer, he looks like one.

I was about to introduce myself when Marco cleared his throat before speaking up, "Morris, she's Athena. Athena Vasquez, my friend." he then faced me, "Athena, this is Morris. The eldest among us three. He works under the government."

Oh. That was why he's familiar. I've seen his face on the newspapers the company publishes. And Gio once wrote about him before if I am not mistaken. I will look for it tomorrow on my cubicle. I always have hard copies of the papers we publish. For future purposes.

We had a little chat before eating when the waiter was done serving their orders. I asked Mady to order for me. She ordered steak. Thank goodness it was easy to slice.

"So you're working under a publishing company?" Morris asked. I wiped my mouth with a cloth before answering 'yes'.

"Why don't you just build your own? I'm pretty sure you've saved plenty enough for that," he added.

"I plan to do that but not yet. I still have a lot to do before doing that." I shrugged. That's true. Aside from the tasks I was given, I am also working for something. I want to know the person behind the massacre that took many lives. Including my parents. The other Journalists decided to stop knowing the truth but not me. I've always wanted to know truth behind the death of my parents. The reason why the mastermind included them.

"I see..." That was the last thing he said before we continued eating. I did not knew Marco ordered a slice of red velvet cake for me as a dessert. I thanked him for that. He already treated me lots of times and I am thinking of how will I repay him.

We chatted a little more before we decided to go. And I am currently having a hard time booking an Uber since it is currently rush hour and most of the employees from different companies uses Uber as their transport on their way home.

"Hey, let me give you a ride," I shifted my gaze from my phone to Marco who was standing beside me. I looked around and I did not see Mady and Morris. Did they left?

"I'm already booking an Uber." I smiled at him before looking back on my phone. Hoping that I will successfully book one.

"I'll just wait until you booked one then."

"What about Mady?" I asked not looking away from my phone.

"Morris will bring her home. We live in a same house after all." I nodded on what he said. So it means none of them moved out even if they can afford to have their own condominium units. Given the fact that Marco's a Director of a real-estate company.

Half an hour had already passed and I haven't booked an Uber yet. Marco really stayed and waited but I can see that he's tired. Who wouldn't? He must be already resting on his bed but here he is, standing beside me outside the restaurant where we ate, waiting until I finally booked a ride.

"Hey..." he hummed as his response, "Don't you think you should go home?"

He shook his head, "What I think is you should accept my offer. Let me drive you home. I know you still have work to do."

I sighed before giving up. He is right. I still have to proofread three works from the newbies and that will consume a lot of time... and energy.

We walked our way to the basement where his car was parked. It is a 2020 White Mercedes-Benz A Class. Damn, it will cost you a lot just to buy this luxury car. When we got in, I already smelled his manly scent lingering inside his Mercedes-Benz.

"Where do you live?" he asked after he started the engine. Even the sound of the engine sounds luxurious. He handed me his phone and I typed my address after that.

The whole ride was a quiet. Marco’s driving smoothly unlike the other drivers I know. When the traffic light turned green, he swiftly turned the steering wheel to the left then we are welcomed by numerous cars that are stocked on the traffic.

I looked on Marco when he started humming a familiar song.

“You know that song?” I asked before resting my head on the window. It’s raining...

“It’s my favorite song.” I hummed as a response on what he said.

“That’s also my favorite.” I looked at him.

“You have a taste on music,” he shifted the gear from park to drive before stepping on the gas. The traffic is now slowly fading. And we are still a little far from my apartment.

“So do you.” I said looking back on the window, watching the busy street as we passed by.

After a few minutes, I can finally see the building where I live. Marco parked his car on the side.

I shifted my sit once I’m done taking or my seatbelt, “Hey, thank you for today.” I said looking straight to his eyes, “Do you want to have a hot chocolate first?” I asked.

“Thanks for offering but I have to go now. I know you still have a work to do and I don’t want to bother you.” He said with a smile plastered on his face. I got off his car then waved my hand at him before going inside.

And as usual, I was welcomed with a huge mess Hail did. I shook my head before cleaning up her mess.

I just got out from the bathroom when my phone beeped.

From: Marco.

jgh.

That’s just a simple message. Why am I smiling? Really, Athena?
