CHAPTER 5

Nothing happened on the following days aside from knowing that Marco used to play football on his college days. We happened to talk about our hobbies since Mady gave us tickets to watch her game on weekends.

"So your mom was an active athlete during her times?" I casually asked him while we're both facing our own monitors. We usually do this, chitchat while working.

"Yes, she used to play volleyball like Mady. But she also do archery before," he said not taking off his eyes on the papers he is signing. I could see him on my peripheral vision.

"I heard Mady was also an honor student on her school. It's a good thing that she can maintain her grades while doing her passion," I said. "Where's your mom, by the way?"

"She passed away two years ago, that happened a week before I take over my Dad's position." he answered.

"I'm sorry to hear that..." I said instead. I know how it hurts to lose a parent. I lost mine two years ago when our orphanage got massacred by unknown guys. And until now, we don't have a lead yet on who's behind that. I guess the police already stopped investigating. If they won't do it, then I will.

"Hey, don't be sorry." he said, "She's already at peace and I'm contented with that. On the brighter side, she won't witness what happened to her brother." he added.

The next day, I had to come with Marco as Mady invited us watch her play volleyball. I just knew that day from Marco that this was Mady's last game as a high school student as she will enter senior high school on the next Academic Year and this game will be her last as a captain. Marco also told me how Mady almost quit her life as an athlete because of what happened to their mother. He even told me when she him that it reminds her of their late mom whenever she plays volleyball.

The game was going smooth until the final set came. Mady's team and other team were tied. The score are now 13 - 14 and the favor was on Mady's side. The wing spiker from the other team used a jump float serve and Mady received it perfectly, passing it to their setter as Mady and the two middle blockers and a wing spiker prepared to spike. You wouldn't know who were the decoys and not because they all attacked like they already know who the champion will be.

"Who will Lopez use to use as her spiker this time? Will it be Javier, their team captain or will it be the Perez twins?" the announcer said and I already can feel the other team preparing to block the spike from Mady's team. "Lopez served the ball! The twins spiked from both sides... Javier from the back! Javier spiked the ball from the back!"

The crowd started cheering to Mady as she spiked the ball. They're all hyped up while the one beside me, Marco, was watching the game seriously. It was like he was also there in the court, playing to win the game. I looked back on the court when the cheers became louder.

"The other team dug it perfectly ! They're really securing their point!"

The ball came back from their setter's possession. Mady, on the other hand, jumped on the left as they used the minus tempo. It was a clean cross shot and the opponent had a hard time digging it. But in the end, the libero from the other team was not fast enough to dig her spike.

Mady's team obviously won and she even got awarded as the Most Valuable Player. Some sports journalists i know were now interviewing her as she was the Most Valuable Player for this year's season and given the fact that she is also the captain of their team.

"Athena?"

I turned around to see the familiar voice who called me and I saw Gio, walking towards me while he was holding a pen and his small notebook. It seems like he was from the other team and he just finished interviewing them.. I smiled at him then waved my hand afterwards, "Gio!" I felt Marco looked at me but I did not mind him.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" he asked as soon as he got closer, "And who are you with?" he added.

"I'm with Marco, we came to support his sister." I answered before calling Marco, "This is Marco Javier, the one from my task. Then this is Gio, my workmate." I said as I introduced them to each other.

"I know him. We met when I interviewed his brother, Morris?" he said, "Anyway, are we okay on Saturday? Mira and I are free."

"I'll check," I said and was about to say something but Mady came and Marco signaled me that we're going I nodded at them before facing Gio again, "I'm sorry, G, we have to go. Send Mira my regards!" I added before going to where the siblings are waiting for me.

After the that, we ate on a steak house first to celebrate Mady's award before dropping her off on the venue where her team will celebrate their Victory Party. She wanted us to stay a little long but we do not want to become a bummer since we're sure that we will be the only ones who are in 20 years old and aside from that, Marco still have to attend a dinner meeting together with the CEO of their company. He dropped me off on the cafe near my office before he left. I still have to do pass a report to Mr. Perez regarding the progress of my task.

"Have a sit," Mr. Perez said while pouring a tea on the cup placed on the coffee table in front of the couch.

I gave him the envelope containing the informations I gathered during the past days, "Marco lost his mom on the year when I lost my parents." I said while he was reading the papers. "Do you think his mom also died on the orphanage?"

"That's for you to find out."
