Chapter 12: Plunder

Upon entering Zhan Xi's residence, Li Wei quickly searched through the house. The situation seemed peculiar.

He initially thought he could find a decent sum of money, but the reality was different. All he found was a pile of loose change – a little over two hundred white crystals, equivalent to a normal worker's weekly salary. It wasn't meager, but considering Zhan Xi's status, it fell far short of expectations.

This was unusual. A gang leader with such a small stash? Moreover, vampires, who often flaunted aristocratic tastes, were known for collecting valuables such as antiques and paintings. While common folk might consider them mere space-occupying items, in the upper districts, they were sought-after art pieces.

Li Wei wasn't hoping to find extraordinarily precious items in Zhan Xi's possession, but a meager two hundred white crystals were beneath his notice, even in his impoverished state.

Unwilling to accept this outcome, he spent some more time rummaging through the house and eventually discovered something valuable.

A hidden door.

With the key he found on Zhan Xi's corpse, Li Wei tested several locks until the hidden door opened. Behind it lay a small enclosed space.

It resembled a typical household storage room, albeit a small one. A few small copper boxes lay scattered near the room's edge. One of them had been knocked open, revealing inside the tiny white crystals, each the size of a fingernail.

However, these were not the focal points. In the middle of the storage room, the girl bound by ropes completely captured Li Wei's attention.

She looked around thirteen or fourteen, delicate features marred by dirt, stains, and some scratches, greatly diminishing her beauty.

Li Wei wasn't interested in young girls, but this one seemed strangely familiar to him.

Digging into his memories, he recalled.

"Yasha?"

Upon hearing Li Wei's voice, the girl, whom he called Yasha, moved a bit, emitting a whimpering sound. Her eyes were covered with a black cloth, and a piece of cloth gagged her mouth. She couldn't see or speak.

However, it seemed she still retained some memory of Li Wei's voice.

Approaching her, Li Wei removed the cloth blocking her mouth.

The girl coughed a couple of times and said, "Li Wei? Is it you?"

"Yeah." He acknowledged while helping her untie the blindfold.

Adjusting to the light, Yasha said, "Sincerely thank you. This is the second time you've saved me."

Li Wei remained silent.

This girl was the origin of his predecessor's troubles, the reason the Skeleton Gang targeted him. Back then, the "previous" Li Wei saved Yasha, which led to offending the Skeleton Gang and ultimately being cornered and beaten to death in an alley.

Looking at it this way, Li Wei's transmigration and rebirth seemed intricately connected to this girl.

However, despite the apparent bond, Li Wei had no special feelings for her. They were not acquainted enough. If it weren't for needing some funds from Zhan Xi's place, he wouldn't have remembered this girl.

It seemed Yasha knew a bit too much. Li Wei squinted, further confirming his suspicion that this girl's identity was not simple. How could an ordinary girl assess a vampire's level? Or gauge a hunter's strength? He felt that delving further into this matter might lead to trouble.

He said, "That vampire won't be coming back. I've taken care of him."

Yasha skeptically remarked, "You claim you killed that vampire? He's a genuine vampire noble, not a blood slave! As a bounty hunter, you haven't even completed the Extreme Forging. How did you manage?"

This girl knows a bit too much, doesn't she?

Li Wei's suspicion deepened. A common girl shouldn't possess such knowledge. Considering what he saw now, along with the information he acquired from Hu Wei, the guy he eliminated earlier, Li Wei sensed that Yasha's identity was far from ordinary.

If she were an ordinary girl, why would Zhan Xi, a vampire, go through so much trouble to capture her? Although it was rumored that vampires loved to feed on the blood of young girls, a vast selection was available. Why insist on one to the point of kidnapping?

Moreover, if the vampire truly wanted to feed on blood, this girl probably wouldn't have survived.

She had been bitten by a vampire but didn't die. With nothing special about her, the only logical conclusion Li Wei could draw was that Zhan Xi never intended to kill her. Those two bites were just savoring a delicacy, not taking the plunge to feed.

Considering all this, Li Wei decided not to delve further into the matter. No matter how things were, he didn't want to get involved in troublesome affairs.

He said, "I don't want to know who you are, and I don't owe you anything. Wait here; the police will likely arrive soon. Seek help from them. Just don't betray me."

While speaking, he started collecting the scattered boxes in the storage room, completely ignoring the girl beside him. This action clearly conveyed his attitude – saving her was a coincidence, they owed each other nothing, and he had no intention of getting involved further.

Yasha, seeming to understand his stance, remained silent. Li Wei felt relieved that she wasn't someone who would cling persistently.
