Chapter 13: Yasha

Li Wei shifted his attention back to the spoils.

A cursory glance at the boxes in the storage room revealed that most of them contained white crystals, with a few blue crystals. These were not paper currency but actual energy crystals—a mineral that had become the most crucial energy source in this era, so much so that it was even linked to currency.

There were five stacked boxes in the storage room, each containing roughly ten thousand crystals. Roughly estimating, these items added up to around fifty thousand white crystals, equivalent to five hundred blue crystals or five purple crystals.

This was already a considerable sum. Li Wei found some rope, tied the boxes together securely, and attempted to pull them, only to realize they were too heavy.

Frustrated, he reluctantly decided to discard a few boxes filled with white crystals, keeping only three boxes, reducing the total to around thirty-five thousand.

"Wait a moment!" After silently watching Yasha for a while, she suddenly spoke.

"What's up?"

"I can help you take all the money, but you must do me a favor. You're a bounty hunter, right? Consider this a commission from me. You can only take away about thirty thousand worth of items, but with my help, you'll gain an additional twenty thousand profit. As you mentioned, the police may arrive at any time, and you might not have the chance to come back for this money. Consider it a commission."

Li Wei finally began to take this girl seriously.

After thinking for a while, he realized it was challenging to come up with a good strategy to minimize losses immediately. At the same time, he couldn't think of any way this girl could help. However, if she could, and the task she requested wasn't too unreasonable, comparable in value to the two thousand commissions, then Li Wei wouldn't mind taking on such a job.

After all, he was a bounty hunter.

Yasha said, "Can you take me to the town of Wa Lake?"

"Impossible." Li Wei immediately rejected Yasha's request.

Wa Lake Town was a satellite town outside the city of Wistdom, about sixty kilometers away once you passed through Wistdom City's gates.

However, sixty kilometers, a mere one or two hours during peacetime, was an absolute death journey in this era.

Wistdom City, surrounded by high walls, was considered a safe haven in this post-apocalyptic era. However, beyond the city, there were countless monsters and mutant creatures. Deadly radiation and the ubiquitous spread of unknown bacteria and viruses made it an extremely perilous journey.

A couple of purple crystals to make Li Wei risk his life outside the city? He wouldn't agree to it.

Yasha's eyes dimmed for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. She said, "Then take me to the nearest Hunter Guild branch."

This request lowered the bar significantly.

Li Wei thought about it and realized that Irene's place could be considered a branch of the Hunter Guild.

Overall, he had to go there to turn in his tasks, so bringing along a little girl wasn't a big deal.

He agreed to the girl's request.

Yasha walked to the pile of boxes Li Wei had tied together, stretched out her hands, closed her eyes, and caressed them.

Li Wei seemed to see the shadows on the boxes distort for a moment, but it was so brief that he couldn't be sure if he had imagined it.

The girl let go, looking somewhat fatigued, and said, "All set."

"Is that it?" Li Wei picked up the rope skeptically, gave it a tug, and was astonished to find that the weight of the boxes tied together had reduced significantly. He could now easily drag them.

Was this an elemental ability activated after unlocking the genetic lock?

No, absolutely impossible. This was an esper power, but it couldn't be a true elemental ability. If the girl was an elemental powerhouse, someone who could handle a hundred vampires alone, why would she need Li Wei's help?

It seemed there were still many inexplicable things in this world. According to common knowledge, humans could only gain supernatural abilities that manifested as elemental powers after unlocking their genetic locks and exploring the genetic lock chain more deeply. This was known as elemental power.

But looking at this girl from various angles, she seemed like an ordinary person. It was also highly unlikely she possessed a supernatural power like Li Wei, who had the Book of All Methods. How could she have the power to reduce the weight of objects, already within the supernatural realm?

Yasha explained, "This is a natural talent, innate."

Seeing Li Wei still looking doubtful, she didn't intend to explain further, urging, "I've already paid the reward. Let's hurry."

...

Leaving Zhan Xi's residence, Li Wei first dragged the five boxes back home, stored the items, and immediately brought Yasha to the "Wild Delicacies" tavern.

Even before entering, a commotion could be heard, in stark contrast to the quiet atmosphere during Li Wei's previous visits.

Yasha looked at Li Wei in confusion.

Li Wei said somewhat awkwardly, "The Hunter Guild branch for Sector 17 is located in this tavern."

Yasha didn't say anything more. She had seen many Hunter Guild branches in Wistdom City, especially those in the upper districts. She had never seen such a small tavern serving as a branch.

Following behind Li Wei, they entered the tavern. The smell of sweat and alcohol mixed together, assaulting their noses. Yasha wrinkled her nose, evidently not used to the scent.

Even less so to the lecherous gazes coming from one bounty hunter after another.

Inside the tavern, many people were seated. When the door opened, the attention of many was drawn towards it. Especially when a rare little girl like Yasha appeared, it piqued the interest of many.

The lecherous and wicked gazes made Yasha feel disgusted.

She sensed a profound malice, especially from one middle-aged, bald, and chubby man. Drool flowed from the gaps between his dirty yellow teeth.

Yasha felt a bit scared. Even when she was kidnapped by vampires, she hadn't been this afraid. Although she was only fourteen and not yet an adult, she was well aware of the repulsive intentions behind those looks.

A figure stood between her and those people.

"Old baldy, enjoy your drink and stop staring, or do you want me to gouge your eyes out?" Li Wei's indifferent voice resounded.
