My Father Won't Let You Off

With a loud bang, hurried footsteps followed. James Carter entered with a dark expression, pushing apart the embracing couple and swinging a fist at Mark Johnson's face.

Mark, anticipating this, swiftly dodged James's punch.

Soon, the two were entangled in a fight.

"Stop it, both of you!" Lily cried out.

But the two, red-faced and furious, didn't heed Lily's words and continued their fierce brawl.

Lily looked around the room, crawled to the bedside table, grabbed a glass water cup, and with the last of her strength, hurled it at the wall.

The loud shattering sound of the glass finally halted the fight.

Mark, already injured, was the first to react. He rushed to Lily, grasping her hands softly, "Lily, are you alright? Did you get hurt? If you don't want me to fight, then I won't, just don’t be angry."

Lily struggled to free her hands held tightly by Mark, unable to move.

Lily's mind was focused on clarifying with James whether it was true that she couldn’t get pregnant again, paying no attention to Mark.

"James, is it true what the doctor said about me never being able to get pregnant again?" Lily looked past Mark, staring directly at James.

James saw that Lily hadn’t let go of Mark's hands, and his guilt instantly evaporated, replaced only with anger.

"Did Mark tell you that?" James asked coldly.

His question was an indirect admission that what Emma Wilson had said was true.

Tears welled up in Lily's eyes, "Why? You killed our child and now you’ve taken away my ability to be a mother, James, how cruel you are."

"Lily, don't cry, you’re still weak," Mark picked up Lily, who had fallen on the ground, consoling her softly, "James killed our child, I won’t let him off!"

Lily, taken aback, pushed him away with all her strength, "What nonsense are you spouting? Nothing happened between us, it was my and James’s child, you have nothing to do with it."

"Lily, I know you're afraid James will hurt me, so you don't dare admit it's our child. I don’t blame you, but I won’t let James get away with killing our child. I’m a man; I must protect you. I can't always have you shielding me. This time, it’s my turn to protect you, Lily."

After Mark's words, Lily turned in shock to see James, who, as expected, had misunderstood. His face was dark, his hands clenched tightly by his sides.

Even though he was responsible for the death of their child and her inability to become a mother again, deep down, she still loved him and didn’t want him to misunderstand.

"James, it's not like that, let me explain."

"Explain? Hasn’t he explained everything to you?" James approached them, picked Mark up like a chicken, and started beating him again.

"A child? Today I’ll make sure you can never have children again!"

Mark, terrified by James’s violence, trembled and resisted, "James Carter, if you dare to do anything to me, my father won’t let you off!"
