Difficulty in Conceiving

In Lily's eyes, the hatred slowly crumbled, leaving behind only desolation.

He called their child a bastard. He had never believed her, no matter how much she tried to explain.

With the child gone, so was her heart. What reason was there to continue such a marriage?

"James Carter, let's get a divorce," Lily said.

She was tired and didn't want to continue anymore.

"What did you say?" James's hand moved to tighten around her neck.

How dare she? Want to divorce him for that bastard? Thinking of leaving him was out of the question!

"Let's let each other go. A marriage without trust is hard to maintain. I'm tired, I don’t want anything to do with you anymore."

"Let you go? To find Mark Johnson? Lily, you better give up that thought. You and I are destined to be entangled until death."

"How many times do I have to tell you, nothing happened between me and Mark Johnson? We have no relationship."

James was furious. Even now, she still wouldn't admit it. He had seen it with his own eyes, and yet she denied it!

"Lily, it seems you don't know what honesty is. You need a punishment to understand these two words."

With that, James once again disregarded Lily's wishes.

"James Carter, you can't do this!" She had just had an abortion and couldn’t have intercourse.

But James, blinded by rage and devoid of reason, wouldn't listen.

Just the thought of Lily wanting to divorce him and sever ties made him lose all sense.

Lily lay in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, feeling her heart slowly shattering.

Seeing Lily in this state of despair, James grew even more furious.

A malicious smile curled at the corner of his mouth, but as he unintentionally looked down, he noticed the bloodstains on the white sheets, and his mind went blank. Panic set in.

He rushed to the door, shouting wildly, "Doctor! Doctor!"

A group of doctors rushed in upon hearing his shouts and were shocked by the horrifying scene.

Lily lay lifelessly on the bed, her eyes hollow, the white sheets now stained red.

"What are you waiting for, save her!" James roared.

The doctors quickly began their emergency treatment.

Lily was pushed back into the operating room, while James was left outside, leaning helplessly against the wall. Suddenly, his legs gave way, and he slid down, his hands covering his face in despair.

He couldn't bear the thought of losing Lily.

He had never contemplated a life without her.

Two hours later, the operating room door opened.

James quickly stood up, but due to squatting for too long, he stumbled and nearly fell, steadying himself against the wall.

"Doctor, how is my wife?"

The doctor hesitated before speaking, "The patient had a severe haemorrhage but is now out of danger."

James barely breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the doctor continue, "However, due to the recent abortion and her weakened state, she has developed an infection. It might be difficult for her to conceive in the future."

"What did you say?!" James gripped the doctor's shoulders tightly.

"I said your wife might have difficulty conceiving in the future," the doctor stammered, repeating his words.
