It's Not What You Think

Lily gathered all her strength to push James Carter away. Suddenly, she stumbled, blacked out, and fell unconscious. James Carter swiftly caught her in that moment before she hit the ground. "Lily!"

When Lily woke up, she found herself at home. As she slightly moved her left hand, a wave of pain hit her, and she noticed an IV drip in the back of her hand. Her throat was painfully dry, and her head ached. Looking at the plain ceiling, she recalled the events before she fainted. Tears uncontrollably started to fall. She still couldn't accept the truth she had witnessed. Had she not seen it with her own eyes, she might still be in the dark. How long would they have kept it from her if she hadn't seen it?

The door opened with a "click". Turning, she saw the family maid, Mrs. Lee, checking if Lily's IV had finished. Seeing Lily awake, Mrs Lee smiled and said, "Madam, you're awake. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" Lily shook her head, "I want some water." "Alright, wait a moment." Mrs Lee left and soon returned with a glass of water. "Madam, let me help you sit up. Take it slow." With Mrs. Lee's help, Lily sat up and drank the water. She then looked around the room.

Mrs Lee understood and smiled, "Sir said he had an urgent matter at Johnson Corporation and instructed me to call him as soon as you woke up." "Oh, let me call Sir first." Mrs Lee patted her thigh, smiling, and before leaving, she checked Lily's IV, which was almost done. As soon as Mrs. Lee left, Lily's phone rang. Picking it up, her face turned pale, and her grip on the phone tightened, almost crushing it.

Emma Wilson. Just seeing this name, Lily was reminded of everything from last night: her best friend and beloved husband were betraying her behind her back. The phone rang and stopped repeatedly. After the third time, Lily finally answered. Before she could speak, Emma's anxious voice came through, "Lily, you finally answered. I thought you were mad at me and wouldn't take my calls." "Lily, last night wasn't what you think. James and I aren't in the relationship you're imagining." "Really? Then explain what kind of relationship you have that allows you to do things that only a man and woman would?" Lily spoke in a cold, emotionless tone.

Emma seemed taken aback by Lily's calmness and said, "Lily, are you free? Can we meet and talk?" "Sure, let's meet at our usual place, the Star Dessert House." Right after Lily hung up, Mrs. Lee returned from her call, checking the IV in Lily's hand, which was now finished. She then helped Lily with the needle. "Madam, I called Sir. He said he's on his way back." Lily didn't want to see James Carter and just hummed in response. "Madam, the meal is ready. Sir said you should eat first and not wait for him." "I got it."

After Mrs. Lee removed the needle, Lily sent her out and quickly left the bed to change. Dressed and with her bag, she headed downstairs. Seeing Lily about to leave, Mrs. Lee hurriedly approached, "Madam, where are you going? Sir, I will be back soon."
