Chapter 10 Going up to the third floor

This night, Fang Chong slept for a full ten hours, from after ten o'clock until eight in the morning. If it weren't for the feeling of hunger in his stomach, he might have slept even longer.

Fang Chong, who never expected to sleep so long, shook his head gently. He knew it was due to his body's condition. Before the apocalypse, he was a typical homebody, always staying at home, engaging in activities such as surfing the internet. Exercise was something he had no connection with. The intense physical activity of yesterday was quite unusual for him, and being able to get up today was already a good outcome.

Rubbing his eyes and stretching, Fang Chong got up to find something to fill his stomach. Although he hadn't brushed his teeth or washed his face, it felt odd. However, understanding that future days might become even more challenging, Fang Chong picked up a piece of bread and took a bite.

He consumed five pieces of bread and three bottles of milk in one go before feeling the hunger in his belly disappear.

"Could it be that as the level of my body increases, my appetite will also follow suit?" Fang Chong, eating while realizing a serious issue, found that his breakfast today was more than twice his usual amount. This change left Fang Chong perplexed, and he concluded that the most likely reason was an increase in his body's level.

"Oh well, let fate decide," Fang Chong said with a wry smile. Although he currently didn't have to worry about food, he couldn't help but wonder about the future.

"I wonder if there are any tasks for today?" After moving around in the warehouse and feeling energized, Fang Chong thought about the Maya system.

Yesterday's three tasks came with generous rewards, and the thought of them still tickled Fang Chong. He wished he could continue accepting ten or eight tasks in a row.

Subsequently, Fang Chong entered the interior of the Maya system.

"Maya, what are today's tasks?" As soon as he entered, Fang Chong asked.

"Host's success rate in completing tasks yesterday was one hundred percent. No new tasks will appear within the next two days." The internal structure of the Maya system maintained the same blurry figure, and it quickly provided an answer to Fang Chong's question.

"Oh, is that so?" Fang Chong looked surprised, but since the Maya system stated it, there was nothing he could do.

"It seems I can only face those zombies head-on today." After coming out of the Maya system, Fang Chong felt a bit frustrated, but he had no way to change the system's decisions. He had to redirect his focus elsewhere.

"As for the backpack, forget it; it's not very useful and hinders movement." Since he was preparing to go out, some things still needed to be taken along, like a knife. However, he decided to abandon the backpack he brought from home yesterday.

Before having the storage space, the backpack was very useful, especially for storing food. However, with the existence of the space, it became redundant.

After tying the fruit knife to his back, Fang Chong picked up 'Silence' and left.

The second floor was cleared out yesterday, and Fang Chong easily reached the stairwell. However, upon reaching this point, Fang Chong hesitated for a moment—should he go up or down? He couldn't make up his mind.

Fang Chong still vividly remembered that there were quite a few zombies on the second floor yesterday, probably a few hundred. Now, if he chose to leave quietly, there wouldn't be a problem. However, if he wanted to kill them one by one, it would be challenging. If he got surrounded even for a moment, he might end up as food.

After careful consideration, Fang Chong made a decision to go up to the third floor.

The third floor was the clothing section. Although there might be zombies, it wouldn't be much different from the second floor—maybe a dozen or so. It shouldn't pose a significant threat to Fang Chong.

Gently pushing aside the clutter blocking the stairs, Fang Chong made his way up to the third floor.

"Step, step, step." The small footsteps sounded unusually loud in the quiet stairwell. Fang Chong tightly gripped 'Silence' in his hands.

'Silence' weighed about thirty to forty kilograms, and while holding it, the weight wasn't particularly noticeable. However, when holding the knife vertically in front of him, the posture made a significant difference.

Fortunately, Fang Chong's hand strength was now over three hundred kilograms. Otherwise, not to mention killing zombies with this knife, even holding it for an extended period would be problematic.

The transition from the second to the third floor was short, and Fang Chong arrived quickly.

"Zombies are not scary." Fang Chong, despite facing zombies not for the first time, still felt a bit scared when confronting unknown dangers. A day's time wasn't enough for Fang Chong to become unflinching in the face of danger.

After taking a deep breath, Fang Chong crouched down, walked into the third floor.

The third floor had the same area as the second, but with fewer shelves, making it look more spacious. The racks displaying clothes were not very high, and Fang Chong could quickly assess the environment on the third floor.

"Three on the left, only one in front." Fang Chong analyzed the current situation on the third floor. The zombie closest to him, and thus the most threatening, was the one he decided to deal with first.

"Let's take out the one in front first." Fang Chong was ready to clean up the zombies on this floor right away. While killing the closest one wouldn't make much of a difference, considering safety, it was better to eliminate the weaker one first.

With a plan in mind, Fang Chong

became more purposeful in his actions.

The female zombie in front wore a blue knee-length skirt and a white blouse—typical clothing Fang Chong was now familiar with, probably the uniform of Carrefour.

Since the distance wasn't far, Fang Chong quickly approached the back of the female zombie.

"Stab." Fang Chong didn't hesitate. Coming behind the female zombie, 'Silence' in his hand swung out in a beautiful arc, slashing across the zombie's neck.

The sharpness of 'Silence' encountered no obstacles, and the zombie's head flew off smoothly.

Having successfully completed the first strike, Fang Chong quickly immersed himself in the role of the exterminator. Using the same method, he swiftly killed eleven zombies. With such smooth progress, Fang Chong no longer needed to be stealthy; he boldly proceeded to clear out the zombies. With their speed and their current numbers, threatening Fang Chong's safety was quite difficult.

"Roar." As Fang Chong's noise grew louder, all the zombies on the third floor were attracted to him.

"There are only about twenty or so; what's there to be afraid of?" Watching the zombies swaying towards him, Fang Chong felt no fear at all. Instead, he boldly approached them with the knife.
