Chapter 7 Mission Completed

After concealing himself behind the shelves, Fang Chong cautiously peered out.

A woman with black hair, dressed in brown professional attire and wearing black high-heeled shoes, appeared in Fang Chong's field of vision. From her attire, Fang Chong surmised that she was a managerial figure, possibly overseeing this shopping mall.

However, observing her unsteady gait, Fang Chong's expression turned serious. Not due to her appearance, but an instinctive vigilance. From morning till now, he had encountered numerous zombies, and Fang Chong had become adept at quickly distinguishing their movements and appearances.

Though he hadn't seen her face, judging from her figure, if it weren't for the apocalypse, this woman would undoubtedly be beautiful. But now, things were uncertain.

Twenty meters, ten meters...

Fang Chong mentally noted the distance between him and the woman.

Five meters.

When she approached within five meters, Fang Chong could clearly see her appearance.

Long flowing hair, attractive facial features, and a clean face without festering sores made Fang Chong feel somewhat perplexed. However, upon seeing her dead gray eyes, Fang Chong knew she was indeed a zombie.

"One, two, three." Fang Chong didn't act as the female zombie approached. He waited until she passed by, then leaped up. A precise kick landed on the zombie's back, propelling her straight to the ground.

After several experiments, Fang Chong knew that, despite zombies having five times the strength of humans, this type of attack left them unable to react immediately.

"Thud."

Upon hearing the sound of the zombie's body colliding with the ground, Fang Chong swiftly executed his move – raising his hand and bringing down the knife, severing the zombie's head.

Choosing not to confront zombies directly, Fang Chong preferred this method. Zombies were too dangerous, and recalling the scene from the morning still gave him the chills. Even car doors could be pierced through.

"Killing zombies isn't that difficult, huh?" Fang Chong felt a sense of pride after successfully dispatching the zombie. His confidence soared to unprecedented heights.

"The third one." After this triumphant moment, Fang Chong felt even more delighted in his heart.

With the completion of the first task for today, he decided not to leave Mall 2 immediately.

Here, the number of zombies was much lower than in Mall 1, and carrying a large amount of food down to Mall 2 would be risky. Staying temporarily in Mall 2, where food wasn't a concern, seemed like a better option.

Although zombies were still present, their elimination was imminent.

Fang Chong prepared to implement his crazy plan.

Having made up his mind, Fang Chong cautiously began searching for zombies in Mall 2.

Unafraid of facing them one-on-one, Fang Chong had no worries.

After more than an hour, Fang Chong used his cunning tactics to successfully kill all the zombies in Mall 2 – a total of twenty-four.

"Finally done." Fang Chong kicked the head of the last zombie to the side, letting out a sigh of relief. He sat down nearby.

Fortunately, these zombies were all individual, and Fang Chong successfully dealt with them without much danger.

If not for the black blood covering him, Fang Chong wouldn't even believe that, on the first day of the apocalypse, he could kill twenty-five zombies with just a fruit knife.

Retrieving his phone, it was almost one o'clock.

Although the phone had lost its usefulness in the apocalypse, it served as a watch and lighting tool when there was power. Taking advantage of these functions, Fang Chong brought it along when leaving home.

During the intense concentration while killing zombies earlier, Fang Chong's eyes focused solely on the zombies, neglecting everything else. But now, the feeling was different.

As his tense nerves relaxed, not only did the physical exhaustion intensify, but his stomach also growled loudly.

"First, find something to eat." Having killed so many zombies, Fang Chong no longer felt nauseous at the sight of them. Moreover, without a full stomach, he wouldn't have the energy to fight zombies.

The entire Mall 2 was a food area, and Fang Chong easily acquired packaged items such as biscuits and sausages, as raw meat from the deli section was not suitable for consumption. He also chose dairy beverages for a better nutritional balance.

After a satisfying meal, Fang Chong leaned against a relatively secluded corner to rest quietly. Though Mall 2 was temporarily safe, Fang Chong remained cautious. When sleeping, the knife never left his hand.

Over an hour later, Fang Chong rose. After inspecting Mall 2 and finding no differences, he began cleaning up the zombie bodies. In truth, he dragged these twenty-plus corpses to the stairwell, blocking the path to Mall 2. This not only enhanced his safety but also improved the environment by preventing the spread of unpleasant sights.

Having completed these tasks, Fang Chong carefully piled some shelves at the stairwell leading to Mall 3. Though these shelves might not withstand zombie attacks, they could cause some trouble, providing Fang Chong with valuable preparation time.

"Storage should be the safest place." Fang Chong believed that the third task from the Maya system was to find a secure place to hide. Since he currently had no intention of leaving Mall 2, he had to search here for a safe place.

After searching, a small room in a corner stacked with various foods became Fang Chong's target. Besides containing a good supply of perishable food, the room's door was made of iron bars, providing significant security. Even if Mall 2 were invaded by zombies, hiding inside would ensure survival for a considerable time.

With a determined mind, Fang Chong cleared out some non-essential and useless items from the room. At the same time, he casually moved higher-nutrition and more valuable food items like cured meat and chocolate from the shelves into the storage.

After completing these tasks, it was nearly six o'clock. The sky was gradually darkening, and even in Mall 2, Fang Chong could hear the distant roars, sending shivers down his spine. Although he had anticipated that zombies would become exceptionally aggressive at night, experiencing it firsthand made it even more terrifying.

Peering through the mall's glass, Fang Chong could see a considerable number of zombies gathering in the square outside. Their speed and aggression were different from those he encountered earlier in the day.

Seeing this, Fang Chong slightly hunched his body and slipped into the storage. After closing the iron door, Fang Chong's spirit finally relaxed.

He had been thanking his decision today. If he had hesitated at noon, retreated without killing all the zombies in Mall 2, he might not have been able to sit safely here now.

"Host, today's tasks are completed. Level increased by two, and three gift packages are awarded." As Fang Chong prepared for dinner, the voice of the Maya system echoed in his mind, bringing a smile to Fang Chong's face.
