Chapter 2 The end of the world is coming

Could you please inform me about what has happened? Am I dead?" Fang Chong looked at the so-called room in his mind and began to attempt a conversation with the 'Maya' system, hoping it could provide him with some useful information.

"It is now Earth time on April 3, 2012, at nineteen forty-five, which is seven hours after the entry of 'extraterrestrial life,'" the Maya system detailed the current situation to Fang Chong. "Moreover, the current status of the 'host' should be living well."

"Living well," Fang Chong heard these words and felt indescribably happy, but then his expression changed.

"Extraterrestrial life invasion? What does that mean?" Fang Chong was puzzled.

Also, seven hours into the invasion, Fang Chong calculated that it coincided with the daytime when the 'meteor shower' entered Earth.

Could it be that those 'meteor showers' were not ordinary rocks but 'extraterrestrial life'?

Is it really the 'end of the world'?

"Maya, what does the invasion of 'extraterrestrial life' mean?" After regaining his senses, Fang Chong hurriedly asked, using a name he randomly chose, considering it impolite to keep calling it 'hey.'

"'Extraterrestrial life' refers to life forms in the universe different from the 'host,'" the Maya system quickly explained.

"Are they powerful? Do they pose a threat to Earth?" After hearing the explanation from the Maya system, Fang Chong somewhat understood that these so-called 'extraterrestrial life forms' should be the 'aliens' that humans have been searching for. However, he still didn't know if they were friends or foes.

"Due to system program limitations, it is temporarily unable to gather more information. If the 'host' wishes to know more detailed information, please strive to elevate your level," the Maya system's voice remained emotionless.

"Elevate my level?" After hearing these four words, Fang Chong's eyes widened. "Could this be a game? To think there's a leveling-up mechanism, and perhaps even bosses?"

"Yes, the 'Maya system' is indeed a system that can continuously elevate levels. Each time the host elevates a level, corresponding rewards and information can be obtained," the Maya system explained succinctly, unruffled by Fang Chong's astonishment.

"What is going on?" Fang Chong was at a loss, feeling on the verge of going crazy.

The crucial information he wanted to know, the Maya system seemed oblivious to. Instead, it provided him with things he couldn't comprehend.

Upgrading, rewards – aren't these terms only found in online games?

"Do you know what the outside world is like now?" Fang Chong took a while before asking.

From the Maya system's previous words, Fang Chong, after calming down, realized that the Maya system probably did not belong to the original Earth.

"With the entry of the meteor shower into Earth's atmosphere at noon, extraterrestrial life has brought a powerful virus into Earth. By now, the life forms on Earth should have undergone changes," the Maya system promptly started explaining the situation.

"A powerful virus?" Fang Chong had mentally prepared for the worst just now, but when he heard about a "powerful virus" entering Earth, he still found it hard to believe.

"What is this powerful virus?" After taking a deep breath, Fang Chong asked. Although he still didn't believe in the phrase 'end of the world,' from the communication with the Maya system from just now till now, Fang Chong gradually accepted this fact.

And also confirmed that the Maya system would not harm him.

At the moment of the violent impact when the fireball hit the window sill earlier, how could Fang Chong not know that his body suffered severe injuries? Now being able to live well, it should be thanks to the Maya system.

"A virus carried by extraterrestrial life, also known as a genetic virus. If the body's genes are strong enough, getting infected with such a virus will become more formidable, transforming into a genetic warrior," the Maya system continued.

"Is this thing a good thing?" Fang Chong asked in confusion.

"It can be considered a good thing, but Earthlings are too weak and cannot adapt to the genetic virus," the Maya system straightforwardly explained, leaving no hope for him.

"What happens if they can't adapt?" Fang Chong, who hadn't expected Earthlings to be described as weak by Maya, asked.

"Become zombies," Maya matter-of-factly presented some images in the metallic room. On them were faces familiar to Fang Chong, but upon closer inspection, he was taken aback.

Lifeless eyes, numb movements – clearly, they were dead.

But how could they still walk?

Looking at these zombies with festering sores and extremely disgusting appearances, Fang Chong was genuinely scared.

"Are these zombies powerful?" Recalling a game called "Resident Evil" he had played before, Fang Chong remembered there were descriptions of zombies. Apart from losing human thinking, their other bodily functions became more powerful.

Now he didn't know if the zombies in reality were the same.

"Initial-stage zombies have five times the strength of ordinary humans, but their speed is relatively slow. As time passes, zombies will also evolve, with each evolution doubling their strength, and weaknesses will gradually disappear," Maya provided detailed information, seemingly not touching on her qualification level.

"So, what is happening outside now?" Listening to Maya's introduction, Fang Chong's heart gradually cooled.

"If nothing unexpected happens, now more than fifty percent of humans have turned into zombies. After tomorrow, this number will double. In a few months, the surviving humans will only be one-tenth of the previous number," Maya gave Fang Chong a rough estimate. "Most people now are unaware that the outside world has undergone a drastic change. Due to the meteor shower at noon, almost the entire world, except for a few places, is in a power outage. As for satellite systems, they are all in an uncontrolled state, unable to transmit dangerous information at all. Tomorrow, those who are unprepared are highly likely to be attacked by humans who have already turned into zombies. Moreover, the genetic virus can spread in the air, and weak-bodied humans simply cannot escape the fate of becoming zombies," the Maya system explained.

"What about me?" Listening to Maya's description, Fang Chong's heart cooled down bit by bit.

"If the 'host' does not improve its level, it is highly likely that it will also become a zombie," Maya responded straightforwardly.
