Chapter 5 Successful Kill

"Peng." Fang Chong knew that the loud noise just now could bring him a lot of trouble, so he must leave immediately.

He securely locked the iron gate again. After all, there were dozens of zombies inside. Locking the gate meant reducing dozens of enemies.

Carrying the watermelon knife, Fang Chong hurriedly ran away. In three quick steps, he jumped to the side of a trash bin on the street and hid. This was a crossroads, offering multiple escape routes.

Fang Chong couldn't be sure how many nearby zombies the loud noise would attract, or where they would emerge. For this reason, running on the main street now was clearly an unwise choice.

"Steps, steps." Just as Fang Chong hid his body, he could hear distinct footsteps.

"What is that?" Listening to the loud footsteps, Fang Chong's heart suddenly tightened.

Although he had learned about the appearance of 'zombies' from the 'Maya system,' those were just images. It was just a nauseating feeling; there was absolutely no shock like the one he felt now.

What entered Fang Chong's sight was a middle-aged person in a white professional suit, holding a kitchen knife. On the white chef's hat, there were words that read 'Laiji Restaurant.' Fang Chong instantly understood who this person was.

'Laiji Restaurant' was below Fang Chong's home, and most of the time, Fang Chong treated it as a canteen.

How could Fang Chong not recognize this middle-aged person? He was the head chef of 'Laiji Restaurant,' specializing in what Fang Chong liked to eat the most on ordinary days, 'wonton noodles.' But now, looking at his already decaying face, all the hairs on Fang Chong's body stood up. If not for the fear of being discovered, he would have vomited by now.

Suppressing the feeling of his stomach churning, Fang Chong didn't dare to move.

A few minutes passed, and Fang Chong was somewhat fortunate. The zombies attracted by him opening the door just now were only three.

Feeling safe, Fang Chong began to leave quietly.

"Hoo." Fang Chong stopped on a relatively secluded street, leaning against a large vehicle on the roadside, and took deep breaths.

"That was close, right?" Fang Chong's run here wasn't particularly smooth. At least five zombies had noticed him, but fortunately, the zombies' speed wasn't fast now, allowing Fang Chong to escape.

"Steps."

A small sound rang out around Fang Chong.

In ordinary times, such footsteps would seem ordinary, but at this moment, Fang Chong knew trouble was coming.

Suddenly turning around, a young man in black appeared in Fang Chong's sight.

Fang Chong had intended to run away, but the next second, the zombie actually turned its head. A face that was pale and devoid of blood appeared in front of Fang Chong, covered with several small pus-filled sores, and traces of uncleaned blood at the corners of the mouth. It looked disgustingly repulsive.

"Not human." Fang Chong's heart skipped a beat. He had already seen the appearance and walking posture of zombies from the 'Maya system,' but that was just images. It was just a feeling of nausea, not as shocking as it was now.

Upon seeing a human like this, Fang Chong instantly knew it was a zombie.

Discovering Fang Chong, a human, the young zombie's originally gray eyes unexpectedly emitted a faint green light, instantly becoming more ferocious. It roared like a wild beast, rushing straight toward Fang Chong.

"Damn, discovered again." Fang Chong looked at the approaching zombie and cursed inwardly. This morning, he had been discovered six times already.

Without preparing to fight the zombie desperately, Fang Chong, of course, resorted to every possible means. However, this time wasn't as lucky as before. The retreat path was unexpectedly blocked by a parked car.

"Damn." Fang Chong found himself so unlucky. He instinctively tightened the knife in his hand.

At this moment, the young zombie was less than ten meters away from Fang Chong.

Raising both arms in front of the chest in a hugging posture, it approached Fang Chong from both sides, fingers' nails surprisingly sharp, gleaming with a sharp light.

Fang Chong looked at these claws and felt a sudden tightness in his heart. Without others saying it, he knew that if he was touched by these claws, with the zombie's strength five times that of a human, it would be enough to pierce his body.

The more critical the moment, the more Fang Chong's potential showed.

In the instant the zombie rushed over, Fang Chong, like a monkey, bent over and sidestepped, avoiding the deadly claw of the zombie.

At the same time, the watermelon knife in his right hand instinctively chopped towards the zombie.

"Snap." The zombie rushing towards Fang Chong didn't expect him to dodge. It was rushing too fast and directly collided with the car behind Fang Chong. One claw tore through the glass, and another plunged into the car's panel.

"Plump." The sound of the knife entering flesh. Fang Chong, while sidestepping, subconsciously swung the watermelon knife. It accurately hit the young zombie's back. Leveraging Fang Chong's force, the zombie's claw, originally embedded in the car's panel, went even deeper.

"Roar." After being hit in the back, the young zombie appeared even more ferocious, letting out a long roar.

"Stuck?" Fang Chong was startled by the long roar of the young zombie. However, he then discovered that the zombie's claw was stuck in the car's panel.

But Fang Chong didn't have time to rejoice and thank his lucky stars. He saw the zombie shaking the car's panel, and Fang Chong didn't expect the zombie's

strength to be so enormous. If he didn't react immediately, when the zombie broke free, he would be in danger.

"Crack."

Almost as Fang Chong thought, after only two shakes, a crack appeared in the car's panel.

The zombie's movements became more intense.

At this critical moment, Fang Chong didn't dare to hesitate any longer. Taking a big step forward, he swung the watermelon knife in his hand with all his strength towards the young zombie's neck.

"Splash."

In the urgent situation, Fang Chong accurately and decisively hit the young zombie's neck with the watermelon knife. Although the skin and bones of the zombie had hardened after turning into a zombie, the neck area was obviously more vulnerable.

With Fang Chong going all out, the young zombie's head fell off with a splash.

"Is it dead?" Fang Chong looked at the rolling head, the watermelon knife still dripping with black blood, and was somewhat stunned.

Expressions kept changing.

For a moment, Fang Chong stood there somewhat foolishly. He had actually killed a zombie with the strength of five adults.

At this moment, Fang Chong felt that zombies were not as terrifying as he had imagined. But thinking about the days to come, facing this every day. Fang Chong's heart gradually chilled.

However, this kind of emotion only affected Fang Chong for a short while. Knowing that this street was not as safe as he imagined, he ran away with the knife in his hand.
