Chapter 4

"Why did I agree to this?" I grumbled to myself, as I kicked a pebble on the path. If I had refused, he would probably continue to bug me for the rest of the year and I was desperate to keep focused on my studies.

I squealed suddenly, as the rain started to pour down heavily, drenching me in a matter of seconds. Putting my arms above my head in a weak attempt to shield myself from the rain, I started to walk faster, trying to get home before I caught a cold.

The dimming light of the sun, soon faded away completely, left with a curtain of fog, and dark cloudy atmosphere. I groaned at my luck and broke out into a jog, knowing that I still had 15 minutes left of the walk, even at full speed.

But I suddenly jumped as the roar of a car engine behind me sounded, and I became nervous straight away. The road I was on barely ever had any cars, and my gut was screaming for me to hurry up. Overwhelmed with nerves, I stumbled through the puddles, quickening my pace to run as the headlights of the car cut through the fog in front of me, and it advanced closer towards me.

The car pulled over at the edge of the pavement, its tires screeching at is came to a stop. My stomach burst with anxiety and I tried to pick up the pace when I heard the car door slam after the driver got out.

"Felicity!" Someone yelled through the noise of the rain. I froze as I heard the familiar voice call my name and turned to face them, squinting through the fog as they came closer. True to my suspicious, I relaxed as soon as I saw who it was. "What are you doing here, Zeus?" I yelled.

He came closer, now properly visible in the car lights and looked me up and down. "You're soaked!" He shouted. I scanned him over, seeing how the water was plastering his hair flat down on his head, and dark patches of water were covering his jacket.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Yeah, I can see that!"

Rolling his eyes, he grabbed my forearm, making me squeal in surprise, and he pulled me into his car. I breathed out as he shut the passenger seat door behind me, and ran around the other side of the car sliding into the drivers seat. Water dripped off from my hair and foreheads as he released a breath of relief, but I just shivered at the sudden change of temperature.

He faced me with wide eyes as I shivered in the passenger's seat and then reached into the back of the car. "Here take this." He sighed, giving me a sweat shirt from the back seat.

I reached out to take it, but my arms were shaking so much that I couldn't pull it on and when I opened my mouth to tell him, my teeth were chateering to much for my speech to be understandable. Zeus huffed as he realized what was wrong, and he leaned over the gap between the seats helping to slip the jumper over my head.

"T-thank you." I stammered, wrapping my arms around myself to preserve the warmth.

"Felicity, why were you walking home alone, in the dark and in the rain." He asked, as he dried himself off with another jumper and faced me.

He waited patiently as my shivering calmed down and nodded at me, urging me to speak. Hesitating longer than necessary, I searched my brain of excuse. I couldn't tell him the complete truth, I didn't want to tell him about my family's relationship, or rather, it's lack of relation. "My parents are on business trip... and I... I missed the bus!" I blurted out quickly.

Both were lies, but I didn't want him knowing about my personal life. Although, I was pretty certain that he didn't believe me, since I was the worst liar I knew.

Zeus gave me an unconvinced look as he started the car and backed out of the road. "Where do you live?" He asked, casually keeping one hand on the wheel and putting the other in his lap as he steered out of the road.

I gave him a certain look and he glanced towards me, quickly nodding to explain himself. "I'm taking you home, not trying to stalk you." He confirmed.

"I know." I laughed, shaking my head before I gave him my address, and sat back and enjoying the warmth of the car, only to be shocked by his immediate shouts.

"What?!" He yelled once I told him where I lived.

"That's forty five minute walk from school. It takes twenty minutes to drive!" He continued, once I relax in the seat again. "Why would you walk so far?!" He questioned, shocked to find out my transport each day.

"I-I told you already." I mumbled nervously. "My parents are away..."

I winced at the loud noise of the rain drops on the glass and looked over at Zeus's concentrated face.
Despite my disliking him, and him being excruciatingly annoying, he had really saved me from the weather. I was lucky that he saw me.

"You would have been crushed to bits if you stayed in that rain." He muttered, as he turned onto the next road. I blinked out of my trance, looking away from him and out of the window.

"What by the rain?" I scoffed. "I'm not that weak." I sighed, waving him off.

He chuckled as he shook his head.
"Yes you are. You're tiny." He laughed.

I rolled my eyes. "And you're an arrogant jerk."

He glanced back at me in mock annoyance. "Is that any way to treat your savior?" He asked, feigning shocking and hurt.

I smiled softly, looking to my lap. "Yes. Thank you." I whispered awkwardly as I tried to peer out into the dark road to see where we were. The tension in the car was just increasing, and all I wanted was to curl up in my warm bed and sleep.

Relief flooded into me as we reached my road, and I sighed as he finally pulled over by my house. I opened the door and stepped out, the rain hitting me hard straight away. Zeus got out with me, and walked up my driveway as I came to the door, and fumbled with my keys before letting myself in.

"Thank you! I yelled out to him, before I shut the door and leaned against it, sighing in relief. Perhaps Zeus wasn't as bad as I thought he was. Maybe he was just putting up an act.

I grumbled at my thoughts.
Or maybe, he was just a really good manipulator.

Pushing off the door, I suddenly looked down as I realized that I was still wearing his sweatshirt, and would have to return it to him later. "Great. More time with Zeus!" I muttered sarcastically as I started to walk towards the stairs, but I stopped as a knock on my door broke me out of my thoughts.

Raising an eyebrow I turned to it cautiously. Who would come at this time? It was late, and very wet. I cracked open the door, eyes widening as I saw Zeus standing at the front step. I stared at him confused, as he grinned at me, the rain plastering his hair to his forehead. "Didn't you leave?" I asked stupidly, not thinking about it properly.

"Obviously not." He shrugged, as he looked up at the rain.

"Why are you here?" I asked in confusion.

"Can I come in?" He asked.

I nodded uncertainly and let him in, shutting the door quickly behind him. "What happened?" I asked, slightly concerned as I saw his soaked figure in the light. He breathed out in relief from the warmth of my house and shook off the rain from his hair.

He looked around the house taking off his coat to reveal the pink stained shirt. I winced guiltily as he replied. "My car broke down." He shrugged simply. "So I can't go. Not yet, at least."

I gaped after him as he made his way into the living room, and he grinned at me. "Wait." I called out as I followed him in. "What are you going to do now?"

"I guess I'm staying here." I'm shocked at his casual attitude.
