Chapter Five

Ryder POV:

A few days had passed since that night in Lana's bedroom and we are almost back to normal. I finally had my friend back.

As the days went on I was worried about her being attacked again.

This beautiful woman didn't deserve what happened to her.

Much to their dismay, Samuel hired gaurds to protect his twins.

"Ryder, my office, please?" Samuel asked.

When I walked into his office I turned to him. "What's up, boss?" I asked. "Kaden has a lead on who might have attacked Lana." Samuel told me.

Kade was one of the club members, who specializes is tracking.

"And?" I asked. "He thinks it was the Vipers." Samuel replied.

"Really? We haven't heard a word from them in years." I told him. "Which is why it doesn't make any sense." Samuel said.

"What do we do?" I asked. "I'm sure they are hiding out. We need to check some of the usual places." He said.

"With all do respect, do you think they would be stupid enough to go to one of their old hide outs?" I asked.

"It's all we have for now. We need to start immidiatly." Samuel told me. "Yes, sir."

"Meet me here tomorrow morning and we'll ride." Samuel said and walked out of the office.

Lana POV:

During lunch, I sat with Cole, Sarah, and Adam who was Sarah's boyfriend.

"You never told me what happened the other day." Cole told me. "I got in a fight," was all I said.

The gash on my lip was beginning to heal and the bruise on my cheek was almost non-existent. Sarah and I had guards across the street, watching us.

I hated the fact that my father still treated us like children. I understand his paranoia but we're 24 years old now and we know how to defend ourselves.

"Hey, Lana. I was wondering if.." He stopped. "What?" I asked.

"I was wondering if you wanted to grab a cup of coffee with me." Cole continued. I smiled. "Are you asking me on a date Cole Lawson?" I asked, teasingly.

Cole laughed nervously. "Yeah, I guess I am." He said quietly.

I laughed lightly at his shyness. "I'd love to." I said, making him blow a sigh of relief.

"After class?" He asked me. "Sure." I replied.

Now I just have to figure out how to ditch the guards. I know if I told them I was going on a date, it would get to my father and he would demand I take the guard with me and I don't intend for Cole to know anything about that side of my life.

While Sarah and I sat in class together, she turned to me.

"How the hell are you going to ditch the guards?" She asked.

"I'm not sure I can. Maybe I can tell them to follow at a distance? I'm not sure." I replied. "Dad and Ryder will be pissed." Sarah told me.

I looked at her, confused. "Why would Ryder be pissed?" I asked.

"Because he and dad are both on the same page with this." She said after a short pause.

After class, Cole met me outside. "Ready?" He asked. "Ready." I replied.

Dad's going to be so fucking pissed when he finds out I'm sneaking away from the guards.

Ryder POV:

When Sarah walked in, I noticed that Lana wasn't with her.

"Where's your sister?" I asked.

Sarah's face fell as she stayed silent.

"Where is she, Sarah?" I asked again.

"On a date.." She said quietly.

A fucking date?

"Are you kidding me?" I asked angrily. "It's not a big deal, Ryder." Sarah replied.

"What isn't?" Samuel asked when he walked into the living room.

"Lana ditched the guards to go on a fucking date." I said as my hands shook.

"What?" He yelled.

"Dad, she's a grown woman." Sarah told him.

"That may be, but the two of you are still in danger! How do we know this boy isn't working for the men that tried to kill her?" Samuel asked.

"Dad, come on. What are the chances of that? It's one date. I've met this guy. Hung out with him. He's nice and he really seems to like her."

Knowing Lana is with another man absolutely enraged me. How could she be so naive?

"Damn it, she's smarter than this." I said. "Apparently not." Samuel said.

"For God sake! Let her breath for a damn minute! Why do you get so upset? You let me go on dates with Adam." Sarah told him.

"You and Adam have been together for two years, Sarah." Samuel said.

"Do you have any idea how stupid you sound? There was a time I didn't know him. Remember? For the love of God, you treat her like she's invisible. It's not fair to her!" Sarah yelled.

"Shut up, Sarah Elizabeth!" Samuel yelled back.

"No! You've always had favorites dad and Lana isn't the one either. You are so much harder on her than you are with me! What the hell is wrong with you?" She asked.

"Where is she?" I asked. "What's it to ya?" Sarah asked. "Because I'm going to get her." I replied.
