Chapter XII

We bobbed our heads side to side as I turned the volume up on the radio at the sound of the Andrew Sisters.

"He was a famous trumpet from out Chicago way.."

Peter looked at me as I smiled and continued to sing.

"He had a boogie style that no one else could play.."

We just sang together as the song played as we passed through the streets.

"They made him blow a bugle for his uncle Sam... it really brought him down because he couldn't jam...A toot, a toot, a-toot-diddelyada-toot."

We kept singing until the song was over as he parked the car in the drive way. Mom was standing by the front door, which she left open as she watered the plants. She then turned and looked as we got out of the car, waved for us to follow her inside as she greeted us with a smile As we passed through the door, we could hear dad's voice singing.

"I don't mind being lonely when my heart tells me...I walk alone dear ask me why and I'll tell you why..."

He walked towards mom and took her hand, pulling her in close to dance.

"Martha Tilton, what a woman."

Then dad stopped dancing and walked to the radio, turning it off as he pointed to the table for us to sit. Peter and I sat I our usual places, across from each other, as Dad sat at the head of the table with mom hugging him from behind him as she continued to linger at the end of the table.

Dad began to speak.

"I'm sorry kids, I know you are both grown adults and I should give you both the space so that you can learn to lean on each other but I just feel like you both still have a lot to learn. Specially you Donna! I know your a grown woman and you can make your own decisions but it still feels like your still my little girl."

Peter and I smiled at our dad as he took mothers hand and kissed it.

"I know that I have a temper that isn't suited for what happened since we could have just spoke about it and for that I'm sorry. Peter you're right!your sister's job is far better for now. Later after you get experience you can decide were to go. But as for you Donna, I will love it if you got an education and grew to do far better things than even I could achieve. Are we in the same page? Is it clear to you what I'm saying?"

Peter and I smiled at them as we stood up for a family hug.

"Thank you dad, Peter did great today he even found my friend Linda."

Dad widely opened his eyes with a smile and gave a thumps up as our mom glared at him bumping him on the head. We all started laughing as mom walked over to the TV, turning it on. She sat down in the living room and started watching Dr. death.

"So, Peter what's going on with Linda?"

Peter turned to me with a glare as he started laughing.

"She's quite cute and I don't think I should be the one being questioned. You see, Bruce works in the same place as us and has been working there for a year now."

Dad turned and looked at me. So I took a step back as Peter just crossed his hands and smiled at me.

"Really? Okay he does, I didn't know I just..."

"I know he works there! The last time I dropped you off I saw him there. In fact, I wasn't sure at first but now that Peter mentioned it, yeah I remember seeing him going into work."

"So is it okay for me to..."

He exhaled a breath and looked at me.

"Like that I'll know."

gave Dad the biggest smile and walked him towards him with a hug as he patted me on the back as Peter went up to his room.

"Yeah, yeah don't get too happy about it he is still a boy thinking he can date my daughter. Besides if Peter doesn't go against it I'm sure he's a good kid."

"Thank you dad."

"Yeah."

He walked toward the living room and sat next to our mom. I walked up stairs to Peter's room and he was passed out on his bed with the door open. I smirked a little because I knew this would soon be my outcome. I went inside and took his shoes off covering him with his blanket.

"Thank you sis, can you.."

"Close the door I know."

He gave me a thumps up as I walked out of his room, turning off his lights and closing his room door behind me. I entered my bedroom and took my uniform and shoes off, as I sat at the end of the bed, Preparing myself for this nice hot bath. After my tranquilizing bath, I slowly got out and slip into my nighty,Then jumped on the bed and began to snuggle under the blanket. I relaxed my head with a smile as I laid in bed looking at the ceiling. I thought of Bruce as I laid in bed trying to sleep and my stomach started growling. I closed my eyes and turned to the side, Quickly opening them remembering that I hadn't eaten, but I was so sleepy. I got up from the bed and walked out into the darkness of the hallway. I yawned and walked down the stairs into the kitchen as I heard steps behind me, So I turned to see Peter was panting his stomach yawning.

"You too?"

He laughed and nodded.

"I didn't eat anything."

"Me neither."

We looked through our green fridge, finding bacon, mustard and butter. Peter took town talk bread from the pastry box and placed it on the table.

"I guess sandwiches it is."

We made our sandwiches in silence as we both slipped in and out of consciousness.

"I'm done let's clean up Donna."

I nodded as I placed the last piece of my sandwich in my mouth and helped him pick up the butter and bacon from the table as he washed the dishes and put the town talk bread in the pastry. We walked side by side up the stairs as we fist bumped entering our bedrooms closing the doors behind us. I let myself fall into the bed and lost consciousness as I turned to the side rolling in the blanket like a burrito.
