Chapter VI

"Really? Peter why are you doing this?"

"Just cuz, I mean you're my sister. If I accept him from the beginning what will that say about me?"

"Accept him? You? Really! Since when are you accepting the people I decide to choose in general? Besides I don't understand... let's go home."

I saw Bruce's shadow as he stood up, reminding me that we were still at my work just outside in a table. I knew my whole face had turned red. He just stood there with a smile as his aunt and sister just lost it and started laughing.

"If you don't mind, can I speak for myself?"

I felt dumb and just sat back down looking at my hands. Peter still stood there eating the last bite from his cone. He stretched out his hand and placed his coke on the table as Bruce took a deep breath and extended his arm to him for a hand shake. My brother raced an eyebrow tilting his head to the side. I looked at him as he looked back at me then at Bruce, That was still looking right at him with his hand extended. My brother extended his hand out to him with a smile and shacked, Peter than pointed to him to sit back down and continue eating.

"I know you're 19 right and your name and now I know that your getting a job, but I would like to know why? I mean I know that you can definitely go back to school now due to the war being over, I'm sure that they are taking in new students. Besides even Donna is thinking of going back to school now since I'm back I guess."

Bruce looked up with a smile then at his sister whose eyes opened wide with joy. Her smile seemed to have the same impact as him. His aunt smiled at me and tapped Bruce on the back.

"You see its okay you don't need to work."

I felt off somehow, as if this discussion wasn't necessary, but yet somehow I had the answer anyway its a no. Not related to the education but on a relationship in general,a friendship, perhaps.

"I guess its settled then, I wish you the best."

I looked at Peter as he stretched out his hand to me and I took it. Bruce looked at me and then Peter and stood up. His Aunt stood up right after and took Sandra's hand getting closer to her saying something in her ear. She just smiled and walked off with her leaving Bruce here with us. My brother pulled me up of the bench and I smiled at him with a node as Bruce sat back down. We took about four steps away before I felt a hand tap my shoulder. Peter turned around and saw who it was, letting go of my hand then proceeded to walk on, waving at me with his right hand over his head. I turned and saw Bruce smiling at me placing his hands on his pocket leaning slightly back.

"I'm not... I mean I would like to get to know you if that's okay with you. I was not completely into the fact that your brother tried to scare me, but I thought it was quite cute since your twins. Do you perhaps like me? I mean I like you but I meet this other girl and she seems interested too."

I felt my heart sink once again feeling stupid.

"Ah, I mean if you have someone else I understand. I'm sorry my brother scared you and all of this."

I smiled at him and grabbed a hold of the handle on my purse and started walking in the direction my brother had gone.

"Donna."

I turned around and almost fell on the ground right behind me and took a hold of me right before I fell on the floor. The crowed of people didn't seem to stop though they all kept walking around us as he smiled at me with a wink and I just looked at him with my eyes wide open.

"Hey, How you doing? May I know your name."

I took a step back confused.

"Donna."

"Alright how about we look at this like a brand new meeting you see. There was this girl I liked and I told her I was talking you and she kind off walked off and I was wondering if, you perhaps have a time that we can see each other today or tomorrow?"

"You think your slick huh?"

"Well it made you turn red so I'm guessing it worked."

I looked at him as he laughed.

"Well can I see you later or tomorrow I have a car. I can defiantly drop by and pick you up without a problem. Only if you feel like that's alright little lady... older than me but..."

"No, I don't know if I should, and yes your swag worked but even so, I don't know you enough yet."

"Ah, Alright how about a friendship- relationship, you know so we can get to know each other."

"Yeah, that would be nice but I have a feeling Peter won't stop bringing up your age."

"Yeah, I can tell he seems like a great guy though and I understand him I also wouldn't be too fond of any guy coming into my sisters life out of nowhere."

"Yeah, I know all brothers are like that I think at least."

"Yeah, but I would still like to get to know you and I know you know more than I but still."

"...Because of age?"

"Yes and No just in general you seem to have a better position than I do..."

He relaxed a little as I looked at him and then looked up at the clear sky.

"Why don't we take a walk and get to know one another?"

I continued looking at the sky and felt the air pass through my hair.

"So, you're really 24 and you've been here for about 4 years right?"

I stopped and looked at him as he placed his hands in his pockets and took a step back looking at the ground like a puppy in trouble.

"How did you know?"

"I just figured I would ask someone who knew you. I didn't even know your name, I've seen you around and sometimes you wave at me and everyone so I recognized you that day. I was taking a walk thinking to myself about my own problems, I'm in the line and you do paperwork. I just see you when you take your walks and when I come in and leave so I wasn't really sure it was you at first. When the explosion hit and I saw you in the ground, and even though I wasn't sure it was you, I couldn't just leave you there; so I took you in my arms. I hope I didn't hurt you in any way or anything like that I was just trying to help and wanted to make sure that you were alright once I recognized you."

I smiled a little bit just to see him looking off at the sky and did so too.

"You like having your hands in your pockets?"

"No, not necessarily just I know I would be playing with my hands but I want to listen to you instead."

The more we walked and laughed the more I noticed the crowed of people diminishing in population. I saw him take his hands out for the remaining of our walk and felt one rub against mine. I saw Peter standing next to the car waiting on me and heard Sandra call out "Bruce," waiting on him in a car a couple spaces to the left of ours.

"I'll see you tomorrow at work then, if you don't mind little lady."

He stood there in front of me as I nodded and his sister called his name again. He waved his hand in the air and smiled at me closing his eyes just a pitch before walking away.
