The Sixteenth Day: 7 April 2020

The Sixteenth Day: 7 April 2020 (55,242 confirmed infected, 6,159 died, in total)

"It is possible that we're beginning to see... change in terms of the curve flattening a little bit." – Sir Patrick Vallance

The daily death toll keeps rewriting records – today a countrywide increase of 786 deaths during the last 24 hours. But the new death cases in London is indeed dropping, from more than a hundred in the last week to today’s 29.

This might because more and more people did obey the lockdown rules and stayed at home these couples of days. Also, everyone became more meticulous when contacting with others.

Courier delivery service is a good example. Two weeks ago, when the lockdown just began, courier staff knocked at our door, asked me to sign on the waybill, and passed me the parcel, just like we do at normal times.

Today, when a parcel was being delivered, the same young man chose to leave the parcel at our door and gave me a call. When I came out as he requested in the call, I saw him standing some 5 metres away, wearing a face mask, and waving to me to inform me to pick up the parcel without any need to sign anything.

More rigorously obeying the lockdown rules means less going out. It was extremely sunny today. Successfully controlled their desires to go out to embrace the sunshine, people stayed on their balconies, roofs and lawns to absorb the sunlight. There was even a man, in his beach pants, laying on his balcony and taking a sunbath!

7 April 2020: A man taking sunbath on the balcony. Surroundings have been blurred to protect privacy.

Finding happiness in suffering – that seems to be a character and ability shared by both Chinese and British people.
