Chapter 9

Aaron's villa was next to the one I rented. I didn't know if it was a coincidence or not.

I turned to look at him. He seemed to be in a good mood, grinning from ear to ear. There was a shallow dimple on his right cheek.

Aaron didn't look dangerous and oppressive at this moment, so I boldly poked his dimple.

It felt good.

"I'm thinking," I looked into his eyes and said word by word seriously, "that maybe I can be responsible for you."

Anyway, that was why he came to me. We wouldn't get emotionally involved. When we got tired of each other, we could break up without being sad.

Aaron widened his eyes in surprise. He stared at me and asked, "Really?" There was more doubt in his tone than belief.

"I won't joke about this." I poked his dimple again.

Aaron froze for a few seconds before grabbing my hand. I trembled because of his great strength.

I gritted my teeth and ignored the pain in my hand. I planned to set up some ground rules for this. "You can sleep with me no more than three times a week. Not in my hose. You can text me. If I have something to do or it's not convenient, I will tell you, and vice versa. Of course, you can add your conditions or requirements too."

Aaron remained silent. He immediately put on a long face. A trace of disappointment flashed through his dark eyes.

After a while, he asked, "What do you mean?"

His question made me tongue-tied.

"Isn't that what you mean?" I asked him.

Aaron changed his expression again and chuckled.

"Okay."

Aaron and I spent most of the time in the villa for the next few days.

Fortunately, the national holiday passed quickly. As soon as I returned to S City, I had a period, so we didn't see each other for a week. This also gave me a short break.

This period of time seemed long to Aaron. As soon as he got my affirmative answer, he immediately booked a room in WH Hotel.

We made an appointment to meet at 8 pm. However, a factory on the outskirts of the city caught fire in the afternoon. I returned to the TV station at 7: 30 after finishing the interview.

I threw my things on the table and ran out with my bag. It would take me half an hour to get there by bike.

But as soon as I walked out of the TV station, someone stopped me.

"Amy!" It was Lauren Mellin, my ex-mother-in-law or Jacob's mother. She rushed over and held my hand tightly.

I was shocked by her. When I saw her face clearly, I breathed a sigh of relief, annoyed.

(Damn. Why do the members of the Cushen family keep showing up! Do they ignore my warning?)

"What are you doing here?" After all, Lauren is my elder. No matter how angry I am, I have to show my respect.

"Amy! Can you remarry Jacob?" Lauren looked at me with tears in her eyes, "I know it's his fault. His father and I have scolded him. He's overcome with regret now. Can you forgive him this time for my sake?"

I didn't believe that Jacob's parents, who had always doted on their sons, would scold him, and I didn't believe that Jacob would regret it.

I could guess why Lauren wanted me to remarry Jacob. Compared to me, a native of S City, Dolores, a stranger who had just worked here, could bring much fewer benefits to the Cushen family.

At the very least, it would take them more than ten years to have their own house in S City. As one of the best cities in the country, there were strict housing policies.

It was almost the first time that I had a sense of superiority because of being a native of S City.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Cushen." I rejected her decisively, "I will never forgive those who have betrayed me. Moreover, Jacob and Dolores have a good relationship. They have a child. It's not proper for you to break them up, is it?"

"Don't mention that vixen!" Lauren disliked Dolores. On hearing Dolores' name, she felt disgusted. "Amy, I only regard you as my eldest daughter-in-law. No one can marry Jacob except you!"

Though she showed sincerity, I just wanted to laugh.

Perhaps the trick would work if I was as silly as before. However, Jacob had hurt me like that. If I forgave him and remarried him, I was no more than a flirtatious woman.

"Mrs. Cushen, Jacob and I will never be together again." I persuaded her with patience, "You can go back. Don't come to me anymore."
