Chapter 17 Mother's Phone Call

Jiang Jing listened to Fu Jinrong's words and thought for a while before nodding her head. She looked at Fu Jinrong and said in a consultative tone, "Well, then I will tell mom, but I don't think I should come clean so suddenly. I want to make a slight transition and tell her slowly."

"Although mom and dad have been divorced for many years, I know that their relationship is still very deep. Otherwise, with dad's social status, he could have found countless women. However, he has always been single, and mother has not remarried."

Jiang Jing had known since she was a kid that her family was different from most families where parents had divorced. Although her parents had separated and had not contacted each other for so many years, they seemed to have been missing each other from afar.

When she was a kid, she even found her mother crying when she woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Ever since then, she had understood that the reason why her parents divorced was definitely not because they did not love each other, but if it was not because they did not love each other, then why did they choose to separate?

Jiang Jing hadn't figured it out, but she didn't want to probe further. She was just thinking about how she would tell her mother about her father's death and how she could minimize her mother's pain.

Fu Jinrong noticed the concerns of Jiang Jing. He put Jiang Jing's cold hands into his palms and stared at Jiang Jing's eyes filled with anxiety. He said calmly, "Don't think about it. Leave everything to me. I'll talk to mom."

Jiang Jing wanted to refuse. After all, she felt that it was her own business. Fu Jinrong did not need to interfere, but when she's faced with Fu Jinrong's resolution, she nodded unconsciously.

Fu Jinrong walked out of the hospital with Jiang Jing in his arms and to the car waiting for them. He said to Jiang Jing, "Let's go to your house now."

"My house?" Jiang Jing didn't know which house Fu Jinrong was talking about. Was it the old house of the Jiang family house? Or ...

Fu Jinrong smiled and said, "I suppose that for you, only a home where your mom stay can be called your home."

Yes, no matter how luxurious the old house of the Jiang family was, it was just a memory of her childhood for Jiang Jing. But no matter where her mother stayed, even if it was just a simple apartment, for Jiang Jing, that was the most warm home in her heart.

"Right." When Jiang Jing thought of her mother, her face softened and her sadness caused by her father's death decreased.

She quickly asked as if she had suddenly thought of something, "But are we going there now? Didn't you say that we should wait a while before telling mom?"

Fu Jinrong shook his head and explained, "What I was talking about is not to delay telling her but to think of a more relaxed way to tell her. We can't just say that dad died."

"Besides, dad died of illness and the funeral will be held very soon. We can't let mom miss the funeral." Fu Jinrong knew that the funeral was Jiang Jing's mother's last chance to see her father. He would never let her miss it.

"Alright, let's go now." After hearing Fu Jinrong's words, Jiang Jing felt that it made sense. She couldn't wait for Fu Jinrong to open the door for her and got into the car first.

She also really wanted to see her mother. Even if she did not say anything, hugging her mother would make her feel very warm.

"Buzz- buzz- buzz- buzz-" Fu Jinrong heard the faint vibration of his phone when he had just sat in the driver's seat.

"Your phone is ringing." As Fu Jinrong reminded Jiang Jing, he hit the gas.

Jiang Jing took out her phone from her backpack. Indeed, her phone was vibrating. She glanced at the caller id and saw that it was actually "mom". Jiang Jing was stunned. She didn't know if she should pick up the phone or not.

"What's wrong?" Fu Jinrong was a little curious to see Jiang Jing sitting there in a daze and not answering the phone.

Jiang Jing handed the phone to Fu Jinrong. Fu Jinrong glanced at the caller id and knew what Jiang Jing was worried about.

"Don't panic. Answer it. Maybe mom just called you casually. Don't overthink it." Fu Jinrong was about to leave the hospital to go to Jiang Jing's house.

Jiang Jing took a deep breath and pressed the answer button. She tried to keep her voice normal. "Hello, mom, what's up?"

"Jing, come back now. I have something to ask you." Mom's voice on the phone was not as lilting as it used to be. Jiang Jing realized that her mother probably knew something.

Jiang Jing wanted to explain immediately, "Mom, listen to me ..." But Fu Jinrong snatched the phone away.

"Mom, I'm Fu Jinrong. I am with Jing. We're on our way to your house now. We'll be there soon. Let's talk about it later." Fu Jinrong said calmly to Jing's mother on the phone.

Jiang Jing did not know what her mother had said. She only saw Fu Jinrong nod and heard something like "okay", "I got it", "don't worry".

Fu Jinrong hung up the phone and returned it to Jiang Jing.

"What did my mom tell you?" Jiang Jing asked immediately.

"Nothing. Don't think too much. You'll know when we get to your house." Fu Jinrong was focused on driving. He would never drive so smoothly in his daily life. But today, Jiang Jing was sitting in the car. He felt that he had to make it as steady as possible.

Jiang Jing looked at the window in front of the passenger seat. Although Fu Jinrong told her not to think too much, what her mother had said gave her hints. At least, her mother knew about her father's death, but who told her?!

Jing's mother was sitting alone in her room with a photo in her hand. The person on it was Jiang Zhongyong when he was young.

She stroked Jiang Zhongyong's face on the photo slowly with her hands, and her tears began to fall. She had never thought that one day he would leave so suddenly, and they had not even said a word.

"Zhongyong, if you were not born in such a family, would our ending be different?" She pressed Jiang Zhongyong's photo to her chest with her hands and wept in pain.

For so many years, she had kept that promise.

She had never met Jiang Zhongyong after divorce. And she had been so quietly missing her husband and living such a peaceful life. However, an hour ago, a strange phone call unexpectedly broke the peace.

When she was feeding the fish at home, she suddenly heard the ring of the phone. She thought that it was Jiang Jing calling home and quickly picked up the phone.

Unexpectedly, before she could speak, a familiar voice appeared on the other end of the phone.

But it wasn't Jiang Jing.
