Chapter 34 The Past That I Don't Want to Go Back to

The PE teacher thought it was a pity, but she still nodded, "So today, allow an outstanding senior student to show you some basic skills of shooting."

Next, Han Cheng explained while demonstrating. The whole process was prolonged for there were more girls here, causing Han Cheng to explain shooting skill more than a dozen times, but he was still not impatient at all. Instead, he explained it in detail, which made everyone praise and admire this excellent senior.

Even most of the boys felt he had done much better than they could do in their hearts.

"Well, that's all for now. I should go. If you have any more questions, you can ask teacher Yu, an excellent PE teacher who is good at both sports and teaching students. I hope that all students will learn some excellent qualities from teacher Yu as I did."

After the demonstration, Han Cheng addressed the students before he was ready to leave. Although it seemed that his words were just out of courtesy, Jiang Jing understood it very much.

Han Cheng said so just to give the PE teacher a step down. After all, as a PE teacher, Yu was a giant in theory, a dwarf in practice in the aspect of shooting and he had to ask his former student to help him demonstrate the shooting skills.

This inevitably invited some contempt in private, so Han Cheng was not trying to cozy up to the teacher, just hoping that the students would not show disrespect to Yu.

After the demonstration at the PE class, Jiang Jing had not seen Han Cheng again until they met again at the ball on New Year’s Day, which occurred nearly at the end of the first half of the freshman year.

The university that Jiang Jing was attending had a rule that, at the masquerade ball on the New Year’s Day, students in a relationship could dance with their boyfriends or girlfriends and those single students shall be divided into two groups according to their sex, then they could draw for their dancing partner.

Jiang Jing didn't care much about social events like the ball. She spent all her spare time studying and doing part-time jobs during her first half of the freshman year. So she didn't have time to develop a relationship with anyone. Although there were many boys who expressed their affection for Jiang Jing's good looks, she chose to refuse them all.

However, this masquerade ball was held by the school, and it was also a special event. As a student of this school, it would be a pity if she never attended it.

So on the night of the masquerade ball, Jiang Jing came to the scene. Holding a red card with the number "166” on it, she didn't want to look for the boy with the blue one.

She didn't care who she would be dancing with. She didn't even want to dance at all. She just wanted to experience the atmosphere of the masquerade ball to make sure there were no regrets during the time when she was a student of this university.

Jiang Jing wore a black mask of the most common kind and a black chiffon dress that her father had sent to her on her 18th birthday. She had always treasured it so much that she seldom wore it.

Today, she had planed to pick a dress casually, but it was stopped by her mother, who insisted that girls must be as elegant and outstanding as possible at the ball. Under her mother's supervision, Jiang Jing put on this soft black chiffon dress.

And her mother took out a long rose-red satin and cut it into two pieces with a pair of scissors. One was loosely tied around Jiang Jing's waist, the other slightly pulled up her long hair, leaving a few loose strands hanging down on both sides of her face.

That night, Jiang Jing did not even know how outstanding she was among a group of girls dressed in beautiful clothes. The clothes and the nude makeup she wore lit people's eyes up.

"Hi, can I ask you to dance?" Just after Jiang Jing declined several people in a row, a slightly familiar voice rang in her ear.

Although she had not heard this voice for a long time, and although she had only heard it twice, Jiang Jing recognized it was Han Cheng who though was wearing a mask.

Han Cheng was dressed in a black suit. Its material and cut suited his personality and temperament, making the already perfect Han Cheng even more charming. Thankfully, it was a masquerade ball. Otherwise, Jiang Jing felt that he might have been surrounded by dozens of students.

"Hello, senior." After all, she had talked Han Cheng personally at the PE class, and Jiang Jing felt that even if Han Cheng had forgotten about her, there was no reason that she should pretend not to know him.

Han Cheng, who heard the voice, was obviously surprised. He took off his mask, which revealed his face. Indeed, this was the face of the "outstanding senior" that Jiang Jing had seen at the opening ceremony for the freshmen and the PE class.

Jiang Jing saw Han Cheng take off her mask. Out of courtesy, she also took off hers and smiled at him.

This smile seemed similar to the lights behind Jiang Jing. Her eyes sparkled like stars in the night sky.

"It's really you." Seeing Jiang Jing's face, Han Cheng did not seem surprised.

This made Jiang Jing feel strange, "Do you remember me?"

"Of course I do. Didn't you inform me at the PE class?" Han Cheng said it without thinking. Then he added, "I just saw your back and I thought it was familiar, but I couldn't remember who it was. But it came to my mind the moment I saw your face."

Jiang Jing smiled and said, "I didn't expect you to remember me just because we met once."

"No, no, no, we didn’t just met once. I saw you in the coffee shop before, but I didn't say hello because I find you working and didn't mean to disturb you." Han Cheng was talking about Jiang Jing's part-time job in the coffee shop.

Jiang Jing smiled again, "Well, that's my part-time job. Next time I see you there, I'll offer you a discount price exclusive for employees, 20 % off."

"Okay, I'll see if you're there next time." Han Cheng followed her and did not shrilly-shally.

At this time, Han Cheng saw the card in Jiang Jing's hand, and asked with both surprise and a little joy, "Are you number 166?"

Jiang Jing looked at the card and nodded, "Yes, I am."

"What a coincidence. I'm also number 166." Han Cheng handed Jiang Jing his card.

Jiang Jing seeing that there was indeed a blue "166” on it thought it was very coincidental, "I didn't expect you to be the number 166 in blue. It's really a coincidence."

"So, you can dance with me now?" Han Cheng said smily. There was a rule of the ball that every man and woman with the same number, like it or not, shall have a dance together.

Jiang Jing looked around at the boys and girls dancing to the music and couldn't help but frown, "Why don't we just stand and talk? There are too many people around here. It's not a good place to dance."

Jiang Jing was not being affected. It was true that people dancing around occasionally bumped into each other.

Han Cheng thought for a moment and nodded, "You're right. I can take you to a another place. How about that?"

"Ah?" While Jiang Jing was still thinking, Han Cheng grabbed her wrist and strode out of the auditorium.

"Where are you taking me?" Jiang Jing asked as walking.

Han Cheng did not answer, but ran forward with big strides. He did not hold Jiang Jing's hand very tight, but neither did he give Jiang Jing a chance to escape.

With Hancheng's lead, Jiang Jing arrived at an archaic and simple western-style two-story house on the campus.

"Where is this?" Asked Jiang Jing in curiosity.

Han Cheng took out the key and opened the door, "This is the piano room of the conservatory of music. I sometimes come here to play the piano."

"Oh, then what are we doing here?" Jiang Jing saw Han Cheng make a "Please" gesture to her.

Han Cheng smiled, "The rule says students with the same number shall have a dance together. It's my first time to come to the ball. You can't disappoint me like that, right?"

Jiang Jing was a little embarrassed. She knew that Han Cheng had no bad intentions in bringing her here, so she followed Han Cheng into the room.

"This is the piano room used by graduate students of the conservatory of music. Later, it stopped admitting graduates, so this piano room was henceforth used by none. I accidentally knew it from a teacher, so I often came here to play the piano, just to relax."

Han Cheng stopped in front of a black painted piano. He sat down, opened the keys, and slowly played. Beautiful notes came out from Han Cheng's fingertips, creating a beautiful picture in Jiang Jing's mind.

At the end of the song, Jiang Jing clapped her hands and praised, "I didn't expect you to be such a good pianist."

"How you know how to play the piano?" Han Cheng realized that Jiang Jing must know it.

Jiang Jing nodded, "My mother likes music very much. I have a twin sister. I learned the piano and she learned the violin."

However, Jiang Ru did not persist in practicing since young, therefore she was not as good as Jiang Jing, who had been practicing for many years.

Han Cheng listened to Jiang Jing's explanation and found it very interesting. He did not expect that the girl who he had a feeling for could also play the piano. It was a coincidence.

"Shall we have a dance, just as compensation for what we didn’t do at the ball?" Han Cheng asked tentatively, but Jiang Jing refused.

"Senior, we were at a ball, but we are already in a private room now. I'm not very good at ballroom dancing." Jiang Jing paused for a moment and then said, "However, if you would like to, I think maybe you can play the piano and I'll dance, is that okay?"
